The Pantagraph reports Judge Robert Freitag today (NZ time) reduced Jeff Pelo's sentence to 375 years . The judge's decision came after an appellate court ruled in October that Pelo's sentence should be recalculated . The court ruled penalties added onto sexual assault counts were unconstitutional . Pelo was convicted in 2008 of raping four women in the Bloomington-Normal area and stalking a fifth . Pelo's attorney argued the verdict should be tossed because jurors were shown too much pornography from Pelo's computer . The appeals court ruled a few of the images weren't relevant but that the issue didn't affect Pelo's conviction . |

The time in prison is just wishful thinking. He may be entitled to parole in 15 years with less than concurrent life-sentences. Such is justice in the US. I live here and that's the way it goes. |

This is our rules: Short prison sentences Offenders serving a prison sentence of two years or less are automatically released after serving half of their sentence at their statutory release date . Longer fixed-term prison sentences Offenders serving over two years in prison are eligible to be considered for Parole from one third of their sentence to the end of the sentence . And murder here, you're lucky if they get 15 years in total . No-one ever got more than 30 . |

In civilian prisons, you get good time and days off for good behavior - plus you get paid for work you do while in prison or on a work furlough. In the Federal Prisons, you serve every day of your sentence and there is no good time. Of course, the Fed system also has 'Camp Snoopy' for those who aren't hardened criminals - such as white collar and politically incorrect social misfits who have not committed mayhem or a crime with physical ramifications such as the death or dismemberment of another person or animal. |
