1201509 2011-05-11 16:21:00 Seems as though there might be some relics and goodies still missing from the good ol' days when the Nazis were raping and pillaging - well, maybe just the pillaging by this time .

Some items that are yet missing turn up from time-to-time in yard sales and flea markets - can you believe it?

But now there is a clearing house for youse guys to test to see if that old lampshade or vase was in a collection somewhere and needs to be returned .

Records Relating to Nazi-Era Cultural Property ( . archives . gov/research/holocaust/international-resources/navigate . html" target="_blank">www . archives . gov)

Please do not return any war brides at this time .

1201514 2011-05-12 11:19:00 The guy using the bayonet my father brought back had finished with it so there's no point in trying . It will only come back "gone, no address" .

Got a lump of shrapnel from Cassino though, do you think they'll want that back?

Cheers

1201515 2011-05-13 02:39:00 SurfurJoe46, you have brought back memories! .

You know of course that here in Christchurch on the 22 February last there was a magnitude 6 . 3 earthquake .

Well there wasn't much left on shelves, cupboards, draws, etc .

My tallboy with a video and tv perched up on top of it fell flat across the room and propped itself against the opposite wall .

Tye-ding up through the mess, I came across a Press cutting dated 20 August 2001 from a United States Marine asking if anyone remembers them coming here in 1942 .

Of course I wrote back to his email address, stating that a "Yank" had given me a 1918 1 cent piece with a bit of shrapnel embedded on the outside edge of it, also a badly bent marine lapel insignia, the one with the "anchor, eagle and half round world depicting the north and south America on it" .

The Marine John RHYNE lives in East Tennessee, but I have not heard from him for quite some time .

Lurking .

Very interesting slice-o-life there for sure. I wonder if I can Google his name and see if he's still around?

Google results (some of them)

1201517 2011-05-13 04:32:00 Joe, managed to get John's email addy from a old hard drive and sent off a "hello" mail one and half hours ago.

Tennessee is probably asleep by now.

Regards,

Lurking.
