| 1201172 | 2011-05-11 01:52:00 | In the upcoming budget it appears the government is going to take the knife to Kiwisaver and I think John Key has just indicated in a speech that the government contribution - (the Kiwisaver tax credit of $1042) - is on the chopping block. Not sure about the $1000 kick-start when a Kiwisaver account is opened but surely most people will start to think twice about continuing to contribute when the (very good) incentive of the tax credit will be reduced/gone? |

We can only wait till 19 May 2011 when the budget is released. Next weeks Budget will lay out a path to reduced government subsidy for the KiwiSaver scheme, made up by greater savings by businesses and their employees, Prime Minister John Key, has told a Business New Zealand lunch in Wellington. If the population does not like the proposed changes National will be voted out. It is called democracy. KS was introduced by the last government in a time of plenty. We have since suffered a world recession and are now faced with fixing Christchurch so that we are now in a very different situation. Personally I would far rather see my tax money going towards fixing CHCH rather than continuing to prop up KS in its present form. |

As was suggested at the time. |

Like most OECD countries NZ is running a large current accounts deficit. Doesn't matter where the government makes cuts its going to annoy someone. This is not a National vs Labour issue, the world financial crisis happened on Labours watch turning the books red, doesn't matter who has been in power the CHCH earthquake still would have happened. |
