1229753 2011-09-09 22:16:00 If dad buys the mobo, I'll look at getting a good CPU for you, or vice versa.
I like the sound of that Asus mobo you mentioned - M4N68T-M V2.
If you can get the RAM and PSU (Stick with a single 2gb ddr3 for now, no more than 1333mhz) then later you can add an extra 2gb stick for dual channel; windows 7 and a graphics card.

1229754 2011-09-09 22:56:00 Yay !!!!! Thanks jared, ill do that. Perhaps the phenom II that was mentioned above? I'll get a mobo for my b day from dad. And 2 gigs off trademe, and that enermax PSU. Oh btw my current comp, both ddr sticks have broken now so i have no computer any more :( need to build this one quick. skeptile2 (16539)

1229757 2011-09-10 05:59:00 sounds good to me too. I think that Ill get dad to buy the phenom II CPU, and Jared, you can buy the mobo please :) ill then get the PSU and Ram. does the mobo have a sata connector for the HDD? skeptile2 (16539)
1229758 2011-09-10 07:03:00 Yes. It has 4 SATA and one IDE. icow (15313)
1229759 2011-09-10 07:23:00 cool. that means I can also connect my dvd rom drive, which i sort of need. any opinions on OS? i have bothe sp3 xp and vista, but vista gets bad publicity, but i dont know which i prefer because I havent used vista in ages. Is vista actually better? also does this: www.elive.co.nz ram sound good? skeptile2 (16539)
1229760 2011-09-10 07:35:00 also, as my dads paying for it, how about this CPU? www.elive.co.nz skeptile2 (16539)
1229761 2011-09-10 07:39:00 That CPU should work, if its for the ASUS mobo you posted before. Thats if its the same as this Athlon IIX4 640(ADX640WFK42GM),3.0GHz,512KB,rev.C3,95W,SocketA M3 which is on the ASUS site Speedy Gonzales (78)
1229762 2011-09-10 08:43:00 The 640 and 840 (Phenom) one have almost identical performance on passmark. I'd get the phenom because it supports a higher ram frequency and is slightly cheaper iirc. icow (15313)
