| 1202327 | 2011-05-15 22:59:00 | I have to say the fruit have done well. Remember the fruit has only 1 phone 1 model 1 OS competing the world (HTC, Motorola, LG, Samsung, Nokia and what not) and it's still holds a large amount of market share. |

| 1202328 | 2011-05-15 23:06:00 | You cannot compare Android to an iPhone. That’s comparing an operating system to a hardware device. You either have to compare hardware devices or operating systems, you can’t mix and match. | Safari (3993) | ||

You either have to compare hardware devices or operating systems, you cant mix and match. As per pcuser42's comments, the thread title refers to the OS for the devices rather than the handsets themselves. We could get into a whole other discussion about the pros and cons of iPhone versus Android handsets. Many of the latter are pretty crap - but then you wouldn't compare an entry-level Android handset, retailing for around $300-400, with an iPhone (costing around $1000-$1300). But most of the high-end Android handsets would compare favourably with the iPhone - not many (if any?) cost more than $1000... In the end, it comes down to personal choice and need/want. I have owned both types of devices, and made my choice, as is fairly obvious from my current avatar. |

"You can fool some of the people all of the time - - - - "A fool and his money - - - - "The Emperor bought some new clothes - - - - If very sophisticated marketing is the feature that appeals the most, there's only one product to consider . |

| 1202335 | 2011-05-16 03:40:00 | 5 mins of holding onto a galaxy S and I was sold to android for life. MIUI is epic, as with other custom ROM's. I could never go back to a bricky sad sack iPhone with its horrible UI and overly basic OS that does nothing until jailbroken. even then it sucks. I mostly agree with that, having just "upgraded" my Nexus One to a Galaxy S, but the Galaxy S has been dubbed "The best hardware with the worst software", stock that is. MIUI and CyanogenMod weren't largely available until the Nexus S, and what was available was terribly buggy IIRC (I never paid too much attention because I didn't own the device and I knew custom ROMs were a no-go). However in the last month they've released MIUI for the Galaxy S, so I got one the week it became available, and couldn't be happier. The stock Android-2.1-Update1 really blows by comparison, it's a shame that Samsung / Vodafone / Telecom have been so slack with the updates. Thankfully this has changed at Google IO with manufacturers and carriers committing themselves to 18 months worth of updates from the date of phone manufacture. It's a good move, one that a lot of "older" devices could do with. That's something Apple did very well, tying a good OS with good hardware. They truly pioneered the current "generation" of smartphones we have. Before that it was the likes of the iMate JasJam that was "state of the art" and it blows by comparison. CPU speeds were still comparative, but the way the whole package was tied together was great, and either way, the smartphone & tablet world owes Apple a *lot*. |
