home.nzcity.co.nz - this is all over the news here this AM and a lot of profiles and pixs are now scooped up by advertisers and that's making a lot of people very angry.

I don't use any social sites except for Buzz, and that's just for my pixs that I post and I never make any comments. Somehow I don't think Buzz is anywhere near the same - security wise or troublesome at all.

1201361 2011-05-11 16:07:00 . . . <edit> . . . . . . and then there's this from GMSV this morning in my mailbox:::

ibid: Microsoft has a huge opportunity here — if it doesn’t do what some expect it and other big companies to do, which is to buy a good product or service, then ruin it .

Does this redeem eBay?

The San Jose company bought Skype in 2005 for $2 . 6 billion, realized it had made a mistake, then unloaded 70 percent of its stake in 2009 . It looks like eBay will recoup its original purchase price in what seems to be a pretty good deal for it and Silicon Valley venture capital firms Silver Lake Partners and Andreessen Horowitz .

They are unloading an 8-year-old company still struggling to make money . And what a payoff for Skype, which last year announced it would be going public but delayed doing so . The Wall Street Journal points out that Luxembourg-based Skype has had a “mixed history as an operating business,” losing $7 million last year on revenue of $860 million .

Skype has many users, but a lot of them are attracted to the company’s free services . The company said in an SEC filing in April that it has 145 million monthly users, but only 8 . 8 million of them are paying customers .

There’s always a Facebook angle . Some, such as GigaOm’s Om Malik, who first reported that a Microsoft-Skype deal was possible, say the deal could benefit Facebook .

Malik says that because Microsoft is an investor in the social network, Facebook could get access to Skype’s technology . Felix Salmon of Reuters points out that even if Facebook had wanted to buy Skype itself, the social networking company was at a disadvantage because it is privately held .

Personally I don't care if EvilBay gets knackered or not - actually I'd like to see it fail for reasons that are not entirely my own - and with this new found windfall it may be resurrected a-priori it's eventual demise .

Remember too that what appears to be a full-reclamation of funds that it spend a few years ago, that the US dollar has slid (slud?) to a totally different face value and this bodes badly in the 'recapturing it's youth' vein for EvilBay .

So now that M$ has Skype - which isn't as good as G-Call anyway - I expect it to go into the toilet as I view ALL M$ has done in the past as predatory and over managed, is doing business as usual in the present and will continue on the same road to degradation and self-abuse in the future .

Clap your hands for Tinkerbell .

1) That's awesome!
What kind of motor do you have in that, what year is it and how much would one cost??

2) You need to get him a proper hat .

3) Those cables are nearly as messy as mine .

With some rough calculations, Ebay made a profit .

If they 70% of the company in 2009 and only had 30% now they would have made 2 . 55 billion from MS alone .
From the sale 70% last year, I assume they made a crap load on that too over two billion there too .

So overall, I'm pretty sure they made a 2-3 billion out of it . 2 . 6 billion @ 2005 is ~2 . 9 in 2010, so there wasn't much of a loss there .

1) The 1986 Chevy Blazer K5 has a 350ci/5 . 7L engine in it with a stroker kit to take it to 383ci/6 . 3L with a Crane 'Street-Tork-R' camshaft and an Edelbrock Lo-Riser 4-bbl intake and a QuadraJet carb .

I used the 1 . 8:1 ratio roller rockers with chrome moly pushrods and Perfect Circle stem seals in the heads with the 2 . 02' 78CC big chambered heads to keep the fuel requirements to a happy cost-effect value .

I built a 7-speed automatic Allison transmission with a one-ton heavy-duty transfer case for the 4WD with straight-cut gears to increase torque transfer .

Rear differential is a Gov-Lok and the front is Posi-Traction for all 4 wheels to pull evenly .

I added a 2 1/4" exhaust system with dual collectors into a 4" inlet, low-restriction ceramic muffler and then I have dual 2 1/4" pipes out the rear .

I have multiple tire/rim combinations for this vehicle and as they will also fit my Isuzu, that makes it easy to swap them around to each other for the various seasonal needs .

Right there in that pix I have my 245/75R16 tires on it and I also have a set of 33X13 . 50R15s for it too . I have another set of 32X11 . 50R15s and on the Isuzu at the moment I run 31X10 . 50R15s .

As far as value for the K5 - well it's anybody's guess as they are long ago out of production . But I have had offers on the street to buy it for $7,500 . 00USD/$9,467 . 09NZD - which I have not accepted .

I recently hauled 7 . 7metric tonnes to Arizona with it .

2) The hat is non-negotiable .

3) This is my much-simplified wiring system since I took the other puter off this desk and moved it into another bedroom for my wife to use .
