1201428 2011-05-11 06:34:00 A guy on Fair Go last week said he shared the same dialema - wanting to pay for content but nobody wanted to sell it to him.
Thats the majority of the problem in NZ, no one can legally supply the downloads, so people who want to buy it cant, unless its either Via Itunes, digirama.

I've purchased quite a few albums(cd's) Via Itunes & digirama, and they even tell you how to make them into a normal CD DRM free, but movies are limited to itunes, which is a pain, as you have to use Itunes to play them.

On fair go that question was asked, and the guy from RIANZ ( I think it was) was speechless when asked the question, couldn't answer it -- all he could come up with was, hopefully :illogical the new laws will encourage someone to legally sell content -- the recording and film industry are their own worst enemy.

1201429 2011-05-11 07:00:00 Can you not already do this with iTunes? and or with CASPA/TiVo or with Sky??

iTunes - Yes for movies and music, no for TV Shows (unless you start messing around with US or UK iTunes gift cards).

TiVo - Believe so, not sure about content though (don't have one).

Sky - With mysky you can get movies ondemand (only rentals though), and iSky users can watch **some** shows on their pc, but lets face it, who wants to be stuck at their desk?

1201430 2011-05-11 07:07:00 I would pay only if the price was very sharp, and if the download was totally free of DRM, advertising, spam and crapware.

NZ is different from so many other countries in that we effectively pay twice - once to be allowed the download, and again in the fees we pay to our ISP for the volume of data.

1201431 2011-05-11 07:08:00 I've got no issue with the concept, Though I have never used an internet feed that had the speed to download and watch a decent quality movie in real time, and the cost of the bandwidth would be astronomical.

Music is a rort, Its crap quality and its over priced. At the supplied quality and the lack of packaging and real world product it should be 20c a track.

I would prefer to buy games as downloads, Though the high prices, and low speeds and data caps of our internet ruins that idea as well.

My ideal is to get my media in the best available quality at a cost that represents some value.

1201432 2011-05-11 07:10:00 I wouldn't pirate anything if it was made in NZ or if it was indie, as they often have low budgets and any money would be welcome.

I don't really care about downloading movies and such as we only have a 256kb/s connection and 2GB of data (not all of us are rich you know). We only recently upgraded to broadband from dial-up, so i'm not really accustomed to downloading huge files. If I could download paid-for movies without incurring data charges then I would do so happily.

1201433 2011-05-11 07:17:00 At one time I ran dialup 24/7, and downloaded huge amounts of...uh...data a month. Far far more then I get through on my so called high-speed. Metla (12)

Unlike you we actually use our telephone.

That's almost double the monthly allocation for my family of 4 that costs me 6 times as much as my dialup did.

SPEW.

The fact that we couldn't receive calls over the land line was definitely a bonus.
