1229457 2011-09-07 10:22:00 my brother tried playing a couple videos on the desktop.

specs:

vista sp2
nvidia nforceSE n430
gfx driver version: 258.96

this error box comes up

Error Creating EVR custom renderer

CreateDevicefailed
error code: 0x8876068A
DX9 Allocator Presenter failed
D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE.

we click ok and the video plays fine but happens on all types of video that we have on the desktop

the latest driver is 280.something so will update it, but what could cause this?

its the first time anything like this has happened

on a whim i updated the klite codec pack to v7.70 from v7.60 and the error message has gone away

1229464 2011-09-07 22:51:00 I'm not a fan of codec packs either, you tend to get a mix of out of date and current codecs and multiple codecs that can do the same job as well as ones you'll never need. Usually I only install specific codecs as needed or occasionally I've given in and used FFDShow which covers most things.

+1 for VLC, I do use media player but anytime it gives me grief or is missing a codec I just use VLC.
