1203688 2011-05-20 21:23:00 Found one of these walking about in the kitchen last night:

www.landcareresearch.co.nz

After close study established it was this particular sort. Entomolgist lady said it won't become a pest and establish indoors, well, no it was squashed pretty quickly when first spotted.

Had to fumigate my house in January as it was full of them. Residue from the fumigation still around as I still find the odd dying one.

1203691 2011-05-20 22:37:00 Occasionally i get these green things that fly and look like a stealth bomber. they seem to have no coordination and crash into everything. not sure what they are called. Quite hard to squish... for a bug Gobe1 (6290)

1203694 2011-05-20 22:53:00 Eew! I hate them, we get them here and other species too!

I now use Kiwicare professional strength "No Bugs Super". Spray all around door frames and window frames on the outside and on door steps. I have seen some dead ones outside, so it must be working. Also not quite so many Whitetails since I sprayed. It is for use outdoors, but I have used it in doorway between the garage and the house. Supposed to last six months, but I will re spray in June as we've had quite a bit of rain.

"Often associated with timber or bark chips"

The pest controller who came to our house a few months ago said that cockroaches live in bark chips - which we have over weed mat along side our house. Sometimes they also get into the mail in our letter box. The pest control spray has worked very well - no cockroaches and no ants.

That's very kind of you LL to fumigate your kiwis . Are kiwis normally bug-laden? They look so cute in all the pictures I see that I'd never a-thought they were little Typhoid Marys and carrying disease and pestilences .

I'm just very surprised that they make a bug spray to protect a bird though .

Youse guys are kind beyond belief, and I guess the little kiwis are appreciative too .
