1202956 2011-05-18 03:02:00 Have just about finished paying off my last TV (god bless hire purchase) and I'm looking to upgrade it. I'm alternating between a 50" and a 32" at home and the size difference is giving me the shits.

So, I'm on the prowl, and during my prowl I discover....The same spec 50" plasma as I currently have is the exact same price as what I paid a year and a half ago :groan:

The higher spec (which is what I'm after) was at that price point a few months back so prices have risen.

But for only a few hundred more I can get a full HD 50" 3D plasma:horrified

Has anyone bought a 3d screen? does it get much use?, is it recommended?

I asked the twats at a local store to demonstrate the 3d capabilities of the screen I was interested in, all they could show me was the 2d-3d conversion which was crap, when I told them I wouldn't buy it for that poor capability and that I would need to see the real 3d capabilities they couldn't be arsed setting up a player....

WTF?

lazy bastards.

1202957 2011-05-18 04:56:00 If you replace the tv that often you might as well forget 3d this time. Nobody broadcasts it, there are only a few movies with it, apert from all the ones they are converting to 3d - that sounds like a waste of time. I saw an interview with James Cameron and he said a lot of movies are being done badly and giving 3d a bad reputation. wotz (335)
1202958 2011-05-18 05:18:00 I wouldn't buy a TV for the 3D capability. Consider it as a extra feature.
Personally haven't seen 3D in action, nor am I bothered with it

1202960 2011-05-18 05:29:00 50" why so large?

Are you going to be sitting more than 10 feet away from the monitor?

3D is a gimmick at this stage :( Fantastic to watch, but still just a gimmick.

So he can demonstrate to his sons the difference between shitcan 42" televisions and the brilliance that is available for just a little more investment.
