2011-09-17 05:42:00 | MSE used to take over my PC when updating. It got so irritating, I changed back to ESET. I have now installed ESET Smart Security V5 on the other two computers here, and once again, no problems. Just lucky I guess. Thanks John, I was not sure it was worth the money but guess I will stay with it.

2011-09-17 05:51:00 | Well, there were some troubling comments on the 'net about MSE falling off in performance in picking up nasties, then I got irritated with it for hogging resources. ESET v4 used to lead to slow start ups, so I wondered whether I had paid to get out of the frying pan into the fire, but v5 is supposed to have solved the slow booting issue. I had to reboot each of the three computers after installation, and it does seem significantly better. | John H (8) | |
2011-09-17 06:03:00 | That's interesting. I have v4 at present. I will update to v5 and renew my subscription. | Pato (2463) | |
2011-09-17 06:32:00 | Has your subscription expired? If not, you just install v5 trial version over the top of v4 and it picks up that you are licensed until... | John H (8) | |
2011-09-17 06:56:00 | ESET v4 used to lead to slow start ups, so I wondered whether I had paid to get out of the frying pan into the fire Thats because it doing what its told to do :D The default is to do a startup scan when you start the PC, thats the first thing I disable, second thing is to create a auto system scan weekly. To disable the start up scan V4 - open nod32 - make sure you are in the Advanced mode, then under tools/Scheduler - disable the startup scan - it will boot faster. See attachment - This is V4 - updating to V5 tomorrow :)

2011-09-17 07:21:00 | Thanks Wainui, I totally forgot to change that on my v4 when I installed it. Maybe now it will boot a tiny bit faster. Will watch this thread to see how you go on the upgrade to v5 and your thoughts on it.

2011-09-17 11:54:00 | Dont install mywebsearch, in the first place :p How does MyWebSearch manage to get on to almost every PC I fix? I have never had it on my PC & never seen anything ask to install it. It must be bundled with some really common software that I don't use

2011-09-17 21:17:00 | V5 of the AV only been running on my laptop for a few days now and no problems at all. Just installed it over the top of V4 and it picked up my custom settings and license details automatically.

Thanks. |
