Very true especially on the Mac which requires the admin password to install programs.

1203224 2011-05-19 08:03:00 I just noticed Sophos has a free version
www.apple.com
Have installed it to see what it looks like and seems to do the job
It also has an on-access scanner which runs in the background. Thanks for that, I will send her the link to the Sophos AV. :)

Must be quite new as was not aware of it until I went looking for links to AV for you.

Give her this link as well
On the right it has an Installation Guide and also a very good Technical Guide. Very impressed with the support they give to a free program.

1203227 2011-05-19 10:35:00 I have just installed Sophos Free AV on my Macbook and run a scan. It took ages, over two hours. Must have been a deep thorough one.
Easy to install and easy to run though.

1203228 2011-05-19 11:07:00 You just open Activity Monitor, select Mac Defender and quit process to stop it running .

Can you actually do that? Obviously I've never been close to a Mac before, but a Windows malware I've caught last time couldn't be killed (Task manager said it was "system process"; yeah right), and it made copies of itself everywhere .

I guess the intention of the creator is to alert people that Macs are not entirely invulnerable, at least not unbreakable; or they were just curious how computer literate Mac users are . Last but not least, AV companies advertising their products?

Calm down Mac users, this is just a demonstration/drill .

www.sophos.com for this information. She has now installed the app and it did a full scan and came up squeaky-clean.

Bob Doe - a small grammatical blunder here, and I know you always asked for pointers---

----- there is no such word as irregardless. It is a double negative.

Triple methinks ;) (Alas, that doesn't count for scrabble.)
"ir-" is a negative, "-re-" sends it around for a second chance, and "-less" is none to positive. "-gard" is not really equipped to stand alone anyway.

If people are not prepared for a drop of innovation in the Language of Lucas, we would all have to restrict ourselves to "Ugh" for a everything, just as kids are stuck with "like" - which has come to mean anything except like.

Why can't kids be more creative, using "umm" and "err" as we do? :ban
