1230850 2011-09-14 11:36:00 @ plod: I got that confused as well, he means 2x2gb.

He's a she!

What is the difference - in plain English please - between an i7 and an i5? When I asked for help on here recently, I was told to go for the i7 but the guy in the shop said I didn't need it.

The models at Playtech appear to have the same specs, are they not current models? I asked if they could swap the wireless keyboard out for an extended one but they said no, so I'd have to factor in $82 on top of the price and then try and sell the new wireless one. Yoobee said they could swap it out (no reduction in price though!) for me.

1230852 2011-09-14 12:12:00 So I will probably be fine woth an i5 then?

I see Playtech has another one worth considering too - 8GB memory and a 1TB hard drive - www.playtech.co.nz - for the same price that the Apple store sells the 4GB one for.

But do I need it? Is it worth spending the extra? Will I regret buying the 4GB/500MB or the 4GB/1TB one? Or would 8GB/1TB be what you guys would recommend? It's only a difference of $700 from the cheapest to the dearest options and if shopping at the Apple store I'd be paying $2819 for the dearest rather than $2499. I don't want to go for the cheapest option and regret it, but nor do I want to waste money buying memory that I don't need. I don't play games (other than card games and the like!) so wonder if I am just succumbing to the "ooh, shiny!" syndrome!

1230853 2011-09-14 12:14:00 IF you're willing to spend the 2.5k then why not go for the 27" version with 1TB HDD and 4GB ram, my MacBook Pro has 4GB ram and is plenty fast with it. Alex B (15479)
1230854 2011-09-14 22:52:00 I've currently got a 21" monitor with my PC and find that's big enough - now you'll have to convince me why I need a 27"! Beemer (6956)
1230855 2011-09-14 23:13:00 Another thing I need advice on is the printer. I want to get an Air Print one so I can use it with my iPad, and Yoobee have one model for $159.99. The guy didn't write down the model number, just that it was a HP Photosmart, and when I went online to check the specs, there are HEAPS of Air Print printers by HP! I would like one with a scanner and copier as well, but can't seem to narrow down what I need and if I can get it in NZ (just because HP has all the different models on their website doesn't mean they are all available here). Anyone able to help?

And as I'd like to buy my new Mac pretty quickly (especially if I buy from Playtech, don't want to find they have run out when I go to order), I'd really like some unbiased (if possible!) advice on which model to go for.

21.5" 2.5GHz 4GB/500GB
21.5" 2.5GHz 8GB/500GB
21.5" 2.7GHz 4GB/1TB
21.5" 2.7GHz 8GB/1TB

Taking into account I am not into gaming, and will use it mostly for word processing/editing and intermediate level photo/design work.

1230856 2011-09-14 23:46:00 Well if you're doing CS5 stuff then I would have thought a larger screen was rather beneficial, you will fit a whole lot more on it obviously....and the beauty of being able to see multipul apps having a large area of screen, buy a tv tuner and use it as a tv too.....

Up to you at the end of the day, but if space isnt an issue then it's the one I would be going for.

You're forgiven! I'll have to change the profile pic now I've sold the bike!

Yes, they are Playtech prices. My husband said to go for the larger screen, which would be a 27" 2.7GHz, 4GB/1TB, but I would like to view both to be sure. I did read something online about the larger screen not being so easy to read. I tried looking in Levin for them to compare but was told they are too expensive for them to stock! Palmerston North may have them, and they do have a late night tonight, so I may head up for a look.

A friend in Kapiti has the 27" and I've had a look at that when she was doing my business cards and I don't think it was too big. My study is actually a bedroom so it's about 3m by 3.5 and I don't think the large screen would be too large, it's just what it's like to view.

1230859 2011-09-15 08:03:00 You would get used to it pretty quick. It's not like you have to full screen every app either. Alex B (15479)
