1230635 2011-09-13 07:29:00 yep type in 1 <press enter> Make sure you use the numbers along the top of the keyboard, as the num lock may be off on the numeric keys on the right.

Assuming it only has one OS on it.

You should end up at the prompt C:\windows>

1230636 2011-09-13 07:32:00 ok, got that far, now do I type chkdsk? lakewoodlady (103)
1230637 2011-09-13 07:42:00 I went ahead and typed in chkdsk/r and was told it was invalid command. So I typed chkdsk and it said the volume is good and was not checked.

1230638 2011-09-13 10:02:00 I would remove the hdd / put it in a working system, and scan it for malware Speedy Gonzales (78)

1230642 2011-09-13 11:40:00 @ Speedy. I have another working machine I could swap out the hdd with. Anything special I have to do? Or just take one out/put other one in.

1230643 2011-09-13 21:44:00 Dont swap it put the hdd you remove in the case (with the working hdd). Remember to change the bootdisk in the BIOS (to the working hdd first). Since installing the bung hdd may make it the default bootdisk Speedy Gonzales (78)
1230644 2011-09-13 23:50:00 Ah ... shouldn't you put the - possibly corrupt HD - in the working computer as a slave drive to allow for scanning ? ... this would mean you'd have to change the jumpers on the corrupt HD to slave, boot off the working HD and perform the scans.
