| 1204848 | 2011-05-25 14:17:00 | Been looking at 2TB drives, read some reviews of Seagate's latest ST2000DL003, thought it sounded good until I read this: forums.seagate.com No idea how widespread it is, but maybe more will come soon.... |

The OP in the thread you posted seems to want the data off the drive as a major concern but he/she said it would not matter as to data. I would RMA the drive if it were mine as was suggested by Seagate as I would have my data safe already before a problem came up. There may be several reasons why the HD has failed and one of these reasons may be firmware or not. Personally I have never had to update firmware on a hard drive but did buy two HP Optical drives with Lightscribe some time back and was advised to update firmware on both. They both got very hot and died. I got replacements without question from PB Tech in Hamilton but I replaced the second drive with an Asus drive and I still have that one running fine. Admitted that the optical drives do not contain data unless a CD/DVD media is inserted of course. |

Agreed that there are several posts in that thread and wait and see seems like reasonable advice to me. Much like I will wait and see if the world will come to an end at a time in the future. I do expect though, I hope, to descend rather than ascend as I think my mates ( friends ) who have peceded me will have the fires of Hell stoked and I've packed my Snags for the event ( BBQ ). Later today I may go into town and pick up some of that KFC Double stuff before they sell out or remove from the menu altogether and tuck same in with the aforementioned Snags. I suspect that you would not mind extra cholesterol if you are already dead. :waughh: |
