| 1204652 | 2011-05-24 22:46:00 | i see one of the main differences is one is windows 7 and two are android. Any thoughts on these two systems vs each other. For what its worth I am using this as a business phone rather than a personal catch up with mates type of phone so email etc will be important. |

| 1204653 | 2011-05-24 23:51:00 | Its actually the "i9000T" model which is basically the "i9000" (Also known as the "Galaxy S") but on the Telecom XT (Same as AT&T) frequencies. Skip the Windows Mobile phone, I personally just wouldn't go there (I'm a loyal Android fan, YMMV). The Defy is very similar to the Galaxy S, but it's been dubbed more "life proof". Both have Gorilla Glass which is a main sell-point, but the Defy also is splash resistant. How much that matters to you, I don't know, I never get my phones wet, but you can't go wrong with Gorilla Glass :D The front-facing camera on the Galaxy S is cool if you're going to go with something like a MIUI ROM (Custom Android version), coz you can also video-chat with Gmail users etc too, and not just Android phones. However, the Defy has an LED Flash, the Galaxy S doesn't. The Galaxy S also has more internal storage space, which is great if you want to keep a lot of apps on your phone. My old Nexus One had 512MB of internal storage but not all apps will allow you to store things on an external SD Card, so to be honest I'd rate that quite highly, having more internal storage. The Galaxy S also records video at 720p, the Defy doesn't. The Galaxy S supports N-wifi, the Defy only supports G (Honestly not really much of an issue for most, but worth mentioning). The screen on the Galaxy S is also bigger and brighter than the Defy, but it does use a bit more battery because of that, IF you want to keep it up at full brightness. The GPS on the Galaxy S *can* sometimes take a bit longer than the likes of my Nexus One to lock on to you accurately, I can't comment on the Defy as I forgot to test that. Personally, I opted for the Galaxy S due to the bigger screen and better community support. I've written up several How-To's on flashing the *latest* Android-2.3 Gingerbread (2.3.4 to be exact) which is well worth doing! See: www.c2s.co.nz If you have the extra $$, I'd go for the Galaxy S. If you don't, then going with the Defy you won't be disappointed :) |

| 1204656 | 2011-05-25 00:31:00 | much difference between android 2.1 and 2.2 as the galaxy has 2.1 and defy 2.2 or can you just download and upgrade ? | globe (11482) | ||
| 1204657 | 2011-05-25 01:31:00 | You flash MIUI and you get the *absolute* latest 2.3.4 Otherwise through official channels, the short answer is no you can't. There *is* quite a difference between 2.1 and 2.2, that's where the JIT compiler came in and gave things a nice performance boost. 2.3 is even better! aidanmaz: My brother is a waterproofer / abseiler (window cleaner), they're wondering about them. Reckon it'd take a bit of a beating then? I know Gorilla Glass is amazing, from my i9000, but just wondering about the water / dropping on the ground side of the Defy? |
