1231733 2011-09-19 20:58:00 Question: what is the best Registry cleaner? Or combination of cleaners? Winston001 (3612)
1231734 2011-09-19 21:00:00 I wouldnt bother using one. Some can bugger the system up. If it deletes the wrong thing. And can make a system unbootable / unusable. And programs wont work properly, if it deletes something it needs to run properly Speedy Gonzales (78)
1231735 2011-09-19 22:58:00 I would only use Ccleaner as it's reasonably safe to do so and let it save a backup of the registry when it asks just encase something goes wrong gary67 (56)
1231736 2011-09-19 23:00:00 I also deleted Spybot + Teatimer, all AV and anti-spyware apps, and loaded MSE. I'm sure that helped too.

Bad idea. You still need a couple of good anti-spyware programs, I don't think MSE covers that, most AV don't.

Spybot is good, but forget Teatimer.

1231737 2011-09-20 02:02:00 Not quite right, Agent.

"Features and support
Under the clean and uncluttered interface, Security Essentials wraps up antivirus and antispyware engines, rootkit protection, and real-time detection".

1231738 2011-09-20 02:25:00 Well, I don't know much about MSE (never used it) - Does it provide the blocklists for IPs, domains, cookies etc that Spybot does?

I have neither yet found an Antivirus that searches the registry for known malicious entries the same way Spybot, SuperAntispyware, malwarebytes etc do. (Except perhaps A-Squared, but that was an antispyware that had an AV added onto it afterwards)

1231739 2011-09-20 02:32:00 No MSE doesn't have blocklists for anything. The only thing it does is scan hdds and removable drives. And a schedule Speedy Gonzales (78)
1231740 2011-09-20 11:52:00 oh well thats me, lol, funny a friend asked for advice the other day and after i offered it, he went about telling me that i was wrong, and that his way was correct, its often times like this i remind myself about an old mentor, he use to say to me the only thing worse than asking for good advice, is not taking it when its offered,
i then have chuckle tell my mate good luck with that.

1231741 2011-09-20 20:53:00 Maybe he got even better advise. As much as you may think every thing you say and know is correct - NO ONE is always 100% correct in what they say. People who think they are need a reality check, and are soon shown up for what they actually are. wainuitech (129)
1231742 2011-09-21 01:58:00 advice is just that
its not a compulsory plan of action

but.. some people just cant be helped, they ask for advice but really just want confirmation of what they believe
