Funny you should mention that... ;)

1231724 2011-09-19 06:07:00 Iantech i take my time doing an install like this, it wouldn't take more than two hours so as a cashy i would charge 50 dollars, or for a mate/ family member maybe a couple of pizzas for my kids tea and a thank you goes a long way ps ( you should see the smile on peoples faces after ive finished , makes the whole effort worth while :) ) milkster1976 (16554)

Are you going to go down to the South Island to do this in Winston's case. Or in Iantech's case?

1231726 2011-09-19 10:00:00 . Most games just sit there doing nothing until you're actually playing them so they shouldn't make much of a performance impact .

.

Mmm . . . maybe . However I suspect that four years of The Sims saved games videos and pics might have something to do with it .

I've deleted probably 20 games including Sims + packs, Halo, Bioshock, umpteen Battlefields, Crysis, GTA2 . . . the list goes on . Fortunately my son now has a Playstation 3 and is a COD: BO fanatic . So the pc games get overlooked . :D

Recovered 70GB of hard drive space (200GB HD now has 90GB free) . Cleaned and defragged everything I could see . As a result the machine has recovered 80% of its previous performance much to my satisfaction .

No no, Snork, its quite alright... honest :D

Congrats Winston, sounds like you're getting it sorted

1231728 2011-09-19 10:39:00 Recovered 70GB of hard drive space (200GB HD now has 90GB free).

That might explain it... 90 - 70 = 20GB which while it's an OK amount of free space, if most of it was fragmented, it could account for performance problems (and with 20GB being less than 15% free the defrag program won't work properly either)

However some games use Steam and other background updaters etc that run all the time wasting resources too.

Suggest you post a Hijackthis log etc because there's probably more rubbish running that isn't necessary.

And to Winston it would be wise to check out what Agent_24 said I think.

Um, things arent going to settle down for a least the next 20 years, so enjoy the north. Yeh, I think I'll pass on one of your friends coming around also. Cheers

1231732 2011-09-19 20:56:00 I hate Steam and uninstal it any time I find it. Unfortunately my lad doesn't understand that and occasionally loads it: I shall explain once again. :D

I'll be offline for a few days and will run a Hijack This log when I get back. I also deleted Spybot + Teatimer, all AV and anti-spyware apps, and loaded MSE. I'm sure that helped too.
