2011-05-23 07:49:00 | I would think bean bag beans would settle a little bit over time, but its not like someone is sitting on them, maybe 5-tens years drill a few random holes to check | Gobe1 (6290) | |
2011-05-23 08:03:00 | I have seen this guy blow polystyrene beads into a wall at an impressive speed, but as Terry says, he doesn't put them into any cavity that has TPS power cables. www.myonlinediary.com

We had Airfoam installed in our last home. When we came to redo the Kitchen/Dining room we found that the airfoam had shrunk quite a bit in the wall cavity. |

2011-05-23 08:56:00 | ^ That gave me a great idea. Most 1920's-1930's houses don't have dwangs (nogs), and most (not all) have large roof spaces. So drilling a hole at the top of the wall cavity (into the top plate and blowing in polystyrene beads would work rather well. Obviously walls with TPS mains cables couldn't be filled, but, if rewiring needs doing then non-migratory TPS could be fitted (which is the case with the house we were looking at). Also, a 'lid' could be installed over the holes (a small bit of ply with 2 screws holding it down) and this could be removed and the beads topped up if they ever did settle too much.

2011-05-23 12:36:00 | Why cant you put polystyrene beads ontop of a tps cable in the wall? There is a reaction between the two and the cabling can go brittle. Building paper can also be affected.
