1233336 2011-09-25 02:56:00 Hi. I'm looking at buying a new gaming desktop and just wanted some advice on the best websites/companies to buy from. Any help will be hugely appreciated. blackbox013 (16563)
1233337 2011-09-25 03:34:00 If you're looking for performance and quality over price, go with alienware or dell XPS. If cost is a factor (which it is for most people) have a look at these puppies: www.computerlounge.co.nz jareemon (5207)
1233338 2011-09-25 03:48:00 Depends a bit on your budget, also where you are located. Wait a bit until the Gurus have seen your posting. Personally I would never buy from anyone without premises here in New Zealand. PENTIUM (426)
1233339 2011-09-25 03:54:00 Thanks for the advice. Was aiming at getting somewthing reasonably priced which can be easily upgraded e.g. buying an additional gfx card in SLI/crossfire etc. blackbox013 (16563)
1233340 2011-09-25 04:23:00 Do you want to buy a desktop or build one? icow (15313)
1233341 2011-09-25 04:33:00 I buy computers like i buy cars, I figure out exactly what I want first, then go shopping. This makes you think about your budget and usually you get the computer you want. On top of that you get to learn a bit about what your buying. Don't necessarily buy on price, better quality components cost a bit more but have many advantages, reliability fuller specs etc,
A handy tip is to look at the games you will be playing and check out the specs that run them best. You can also get advice on builds here. After you've done this, Computer Lounge, Play Tech and Ascent are some of the names that have been recommended on PF1 in the past.

1233342 2011-09-25 05:54:00 I agree with what's posted above, don't buy from Toaster shops like Hardly Normal or Noel Lemmings as they are still selling last years tech at this years prices gary67 (56)
1233343 2011-09-25 06:21:00 I can also recommend buying from alphacity. Good prices and good after sales service (in my experience anyway) globe (11482)
1233344 2011-09-25 07:18:00 Thanks for the advice :) . Just one more question, would it be better to buy now or wait for the inevitable price drop when new hardware is released before xmas? blackbox013 (16563)
1233345 2011-09-25 07:21:00 You would wait and wait and wait and wait etc! Snorkbox (15764)
