1232643 2011-09-21 01:33:00 Hi Guys
I am building a new PC with a Gigabtye GA 970 A-D3 motherboard.

I went to install my DVD drive and cannot find a DVD connection on the motherboard.

This is the long flat connector with the ribbon cable.

So I suppose this means I will have to buy a new DVD drive.

I have always bought Lite-On drives

How do I connect this ?

There is no mention of a DVD drive connection in the motherboards manual.

(It just says insert the DVD to set up the motherboard etc)

Any suggestions, thanks

1232645 2011-09-21 01:49:00 At a guess, your DVD drive is IDE and all your motherboard has is SATA connections. In which case you have 3 options. Either you will have to buy a new DVD drive (make sure it is SATA) or purchase a IDE PCI card or an IDE to SATA adapter. Personally, I would go buy a new drive than waste money on a pci card or adapter.
Good luck.

1232647 2011-09-21 02:05:00 Hi Guys

I went to install my DVD drive and cannot find a DVD connection on the motherboard.

Because it's called the IDE port - used for any kind of IDE drive, not exclusively optical drives.
Becoming extinct.

Probably need a sata drive if all the board has is sata now.

Thanks
I should have read the motherboard specs in more detail.

But SATA is good and DVD drives are pretty cheap[.
