1232289 2011-09-20 01:42:00 I have the Antec 300 case with 4 antec tri-cool fans, all of which are 4 pin molex connecting straight to the PSU, with an additional 3-speed switch on a seperate wire.
The power connector for the fans only has 2 wires, to supply power. No PWM, no fan speed wire.
I've been wanting to get a fan controller - the Skythe Kaze Master.
The Kaze Master has 4 inputs for 3-pin fans. It includes adapters so you can connect fans with the small 4-pin PWM connectors.
Ascent have cables to adapt a 4-pin MOLEX fan to a 3-pin connector (HERE) (www.ascent.co.nz) so this would allow me to connect the molex-powered antec fans directly to the controller.
Problem is, if my theory is correct, the fact that the antec fans' molex connector only has 2 wires, there would be no fan speed readout on the controller.
Is this true? Do I really have to go and buy 4 new fans with 3-pin or 4-pin PWM connectors?
If so, can someone recommend me a decent fan, 120mm, ball bearing, small 4-pin?
Budget for the new fans is around maybe $100 total or more if it's worthwhile.
Thanks

1232290 2011-09-20 01:57:00 Cant say Ive seen fans with 4 pins, besides CPU fans. But you're right 2 wires wont do anything. You may have to replace the molex ones with 3 pins Speedy Gonzales (78)

You would be right. I have the twelvehundred and will probably throw some new fans in at some stage.

Those are a good value fan.

Or if you want something with the capability to launch your case into orbit..

1232292 2011-09-20 02:04:00 Only reason I was wanting the small 4-pin fans is because the 4-pin to 3-pin adapter cables that come with the kaze master controller apparantly MUST be used, I'm not quite sure if that's true or not... or can I plug a 3-pin fan into a 4-pin cable socket? jareemon (5207)

1232294 2011-09-20 02:06:00 From memory the Kaze Master has proprietary 4 pin connectors anyway, so you have to use their cables regardless.

What you really want is a Lamptron FC6. if you manage to find one in NZ do let me know haha. :p

1232295 2011-09-20 02:17:00 From memory the Kaze Master has a proprietary 4 pin connector, so you have to use their cables regardless. I'm sure looking up a review will tell you this.
yes that's what i meant, a review said you can't connect anything to the unit without their cables...
the unit uses 3-pin sockets (here (www.overclock.net)), are these standard 3-pin connctors or proprietary connectors?
these are the included cables here (oclab.pl) (middle cables in the photo) which are 4-pin on the fan's end... which would mean that if they are proprietary, then i would need 4-pin fans...?

1232296 2011-09-20 02:18:00 another pic of the rear of the controller here (static.hardwareluxx.de) jareemon (5207)
1232297 2011-09-20 02:40:00 No the 3 pin fans would work fine. wratterus (105)
1232298 2011-09-20 02:42:00 but can a 3-pin fan connect to the 4-pin PWM connector of the propriety controller cable? oclab.pl jareemon (5207)
