Not sure if I have got this link right.

Please read it. If this is correct, is there any point in rebuilding ChCh? PJ

1205794 2011-05-31 01:11:00 The risk is only 6% for Christchurch apparently.

But I thought these people have already said they can't predict earthquakes anyway so I don't know why they would publish that info.

They can't reliably predict the initial earthquake, but they can provide statistics of what is "likely" to happen over a given period based on similar situations in the past and in other areas.

1205797 2011-05-31 07:32:00 The most important reason for rebuilding Christchurch: keeping the skinheads in a single city and away from the rest of NZ!!! :D

(Yes, I know there are skinheads everywhere - but there seems (seemed?) to be a large concentration of them in Christchurch)

PJ, our city won't be re-built yesterday, time frames have been put at 3,10 and 20, quoted to us by our Insurance Company and I remarked to them we would expect the builders' in 18 years and she replied "quite likely".

We should in fact start by dismantling the Eastern Suburbs and re-locating same out on the Canterbury Plains, where there is plenty of top course metal.

Most new houses have a metre of it then the re-enforced concrete pad, so the top course disperses the force much better.

After 7,300 quakes we are still standing !.

Lurking.

Ps. EQC and Insurance Coys'. will run out of money is my guess.

lurks.

1205802 2011-05-31 09:16:00 We're built on thick heavy clay in Riccarton.
Awful stuff for gardening, but oh so good for earthquakes.
It probably wobbles a bit, but no sand or water can penetrate.
