They can't reliably predict the initial earthquake, but they can provide statistics of what is "likely" to happen over a given period based on similar situations in the past and in other areas. |

PJ www.stuff.co.nz PJ, our city won't be re-built yesterday, time frames have been put at 3,10 and 20, quoted to us by our Insurance Company and I remarked to them we would expect the builders' in 18 years and she replied "quite likely". We should in fact start by dismantling the Eastern Suburbs and re-locating same out on the Canterbury Plains, where there is plenty of top course metal. Most new houses have a metre of it then the re-enforced concrete pad, so the top course disperses the force much better. After 7,300 quakes we are still standing !. Lurking. Ps. EQC and Insurance Coys'. will run out of money is my guess. lurks. |

| 1205802 | 2011-05-31 09:16:00 | We're built on thick heavy clay in Riccarton. Awful stuff for gardening, but oh so good for earthquakes. It probably wobbles a bit, but no sand or water can penetrate. |
