2011-05-31 04:00:00 | Unfortunately John Key is no statesman. He is too weak to stand up to anyone. You got that right, cold have defeated Sue's anti-smacking law for starters, there probably more cases. Lurking.

2011-05-31 04:01:00 | That's why I'm saying there's 10,000 jobs available on a single website. I'm saying that the human side of supply and demand needs to change. Yes, machines are more effective than humans in a lot of things, but then you need somebody to build those machines, to fix them when they break, to consult on their installation etc etc. It's easy to be picky when you know you've got a cushion of the Govt to fall back on. I've also heard numerous times that too many young people today don't want to put in the time at the bottom of the ladder and want to become a CEO straight away. Slight exaggeration but you get the point.

2011-05-31 04:06:00 | I always find it humorous when I see people complain that there aren't enough jobs, as if it is the governments responsibility to Magic up some jobs. Instead of complaining there aren't enough jobs for people, go make some jobs for people. But it is the Govts. job to create an environment where jobs can be created so I can't see much humour there.

Slight exaggeration but you get the point. Too true. Some times you have to do something you don't enjoy, just to put food on the table. This is why it's called "Working" and not "Play time". :banana |

2011-05-31 04:15:00 | Lets take F&P as an example . They didn't actually pay their staff minimum wage, they paid rather well actually . But let's pretend . Say 200 workers getting an extra $2 an hour = $16000 a week = $832000 a year . Mr Bongard on the other hand got 1 . 3 million, not including bonuses . Plus the other senior management at - what? Rather a lot . Plus the bonuses . Paying senior people less perhaps wouldn't save the company more? pctech, wished you wouldn't, this company made excellent products years ago, that's why we took up shares with them . Today, they are a sorry sight, their products are very poor, have had to three items replaced, quality control by whom, same type that's on the floor probably and I don't mean any disrespect ! . Gifted those shares to our son, lol . Lurking .

2011-05-31 04:26:00 | And what exactly about the environment currently prevents it? For a start half the cheap crap coming from China etc. shouldn't even be allowed through our ports as it just ends up in the land fill a few months after arriving here which would give more an incentive for a Kiwi firm to compete. For example I bought an electrical tool from The Warehouse that got returned under warranty three times all because they needed to spend a couple of dollars more on the wiring and I have had similar results with other things. I've learnt my lesson and even if it isn't something I will use often I won't buy cheap crap. You had a few years ago Trade and Industry trying to tell Swazi to ship their manufacturing over to China but he told them to get stuffed as he respected his 60 odd workers and the quality of his product.

2011-05-31 04:41:00 | So you're wanting the government to tell people and businesses what they are and aren't allowed to buy, and where they are and aren't allowed to buy it from? The Gov't used to do that a while back. It was called import licensing and you had to have overseas funds in order to be able to buy a new car back then. Cars were shipped to NZ in crates CKD and assembled here for example. We used to have apprenticeships so people could learn a trade and etc.
