I was on Paint by then :D

1205374 2011-05-31 20:56:00 I remember when dial-up was all that was available to home users. It was exciting to listen to that ghastly shriek as the Internet powered up. A 56k modem always performed at about 30k for some reason.

I would hate to have to go back to dial-up. Who knows maybe in ten years time we will be discussing how slow broadband was.

1205375 2011-06-01 00:55:00 The first Modem I had was a 75/300 effort used for accessing bulletin boards on FidoNet. Snorkbox (15764)
1205376 2011-06-01 01:12:00 I remember when we used 2 tin cans, a length of string and 2 match sticks :) Zippity (58)

I did that one too. However accessing FidoNet in the USA from Australia where I was at the time probably would require more string than I had access to. :(

We used to fiddle around with tin cans and string. It worked fine as long as it was straight line and the string was taunt. We could never figure out how to get the string to turn corners so that we could go around buildings.

1205380 2011-06-01 04:06:00 Ah yes BBS, that was fun. Ended up using it to "chat" with my cousin who setup his own BBS. Funny thing was it was faster and easier to pick up the phone and just "ring" him on their secondary line :p Chilling_Silence (9)

The hacker's way was never 'do it the easiest way', rather 'do it the coolest way'.
