1232369 2011-09-21 03:11:00 Same happened to me when updating a driver on a 2008 server.
Goes through the motions but nothing happens.

Never found out why, the customers IT person never got back to me.
All other installs I have had on 2008 have been fine.

1232370 2011-09-21 05:49:00 Have you tried just adding any other printer driver to see if it a driver issue or the SBS2008 itself? CYaBro (73)

I hadn't tried installing any other printer - should have done this actually.

Rebooted the server last night, tried the installation again this morning and it worked normally! :xmouth: Damn thing...

Wainui's train of thought about a process perhaps interfering with the driver installation sounds about the most likely, but I guess what we can get out of this is if anyone has this problem, reboot the server and try the re-installation reasonably soon after it's booted up! :badpc:

Thanks everyone for your suggestions regarding this, especially Wainui for the amount of time you put into testing and researching the issue.

Cheers!

1232372 2011-09-21 22:20:00 :banana:clap Thank goodness it was solved -- I hate it when something like this, which should be a simple task causes problems that are a PITA to figure out.

Just a thought -- This is a wild guess, and thats all it is.

"Possible" reason, is if a update or something had happened , Maybe the server had to be rebooted before any other installs could happen.
I have had this countless times with XP, Vista that certain updates wouldn't go in until the PC had been rebooted, then the remainder install -- Just a guess -- Spose we'll never know. :2cents:
