1206124 2011-06-02 23:21:00 I use Teamviewer for remote help for a few people, and I'm worried that they are going to think they are (a) vulnerable and (b) I'm going to do something malicious.

The people who would believe that tend not to be reading these forums.
I had an email from a woman who won't download OpenOffice cause she "got a virus once".

Right..........

Right..........You are quite right. I wasn't implying it shouldn't be identified here. However Teamviewer has been mentioned several times in mainstream media, including Fair Go, which is what concerns me.

1206126 2011-06-02 23:38:00 The comment on Fair Go was along the lines of "they get you to download and run a file called tv.exe, which is dangerous and you should never download or run exe files".

That's a misleading comment in my view - god knows how they manage to install anything on their PCs without running exe files ... and most Mum and Dad users have it set to hide known file extensions anyhow.

Good old Fair Go.

Misleading is an understatement... perhaps we all ought to send them letters and tell them the truth.

1206129 2011-06-20 07:27:00 Haha they just called me before! They told me I had viruses on my pc and I told them I had my pc checked a week ago and it has antivirus software then they told me they were talking about malware not viruses, I'm like are you seriously that dumb? THERE THE SAME! I just said I dont have any virus and I know this is a scam so please stop wasting my time. SpyroTheDragon (16399)

1206131 2011-06-20 09:07:00 Yep, I had a call, but I had trouble understanding his thick Indian accent. I got him to repeat everything he said about 5 times. Then my fingers kept typing the letters wrong and I asked him spell everything out really slowly. Even then I kept making mistakes and I got quite shitty with him about going too fast. I pointed out that I'm not a touch typist, you know.

In the end, I got tired of it before he did. So I ended the call by telling him I was sick of trying to understand his dreadful English and that he'd given me a terrible headache. And I hung up.

I must have been convincing because the phone rang right back. It was a woman who sounded Chinese and was much easier to understand. She wanted to carry on where he'd left off, but I said I'd lost interest and not to call me again. I haven't heard back.

My elderly father in law also got a call. He's a Doctor, so he was immediately suspicious when they called him Mr and hung up on them. How do they get our names? Clearly, they don't get all the details, otherwise they'd have known to call him Dr.
