1205490 2011-05-30 00:56:00 What I'm getting at, is that he didn't rely on "historical (maori) methods" to attain that qualification, he used the standard method that most everyone uses - i . e . going to university .

Something that would not have been available to him in a "traditional" (maori) setting .

He has adapted to current societal norms - and so should the people he is excusing .

Apologies, Johcar . I can see that now .

1205491 2011-05-30 01:01:00 eh, yet it was OK to eat kid's before Europeans arrived.(as described BY MAORI). That isnt abuse ?? 1101 (13337)
1205492 2011-05-30 01:06:00 It must be extremely galling for Maori to have to rely on the English language and early European historians to have any idea of what they got up to in pre European times .

So this is why they re-write history to suit what they think should have happened .

"Elsdon Best was New Zealand’s foremost writer on pre-European Māori life .

His books are a uniquely valuable record of traditional Māori culture, social customs and beliefs . Without him, we would know little of the customs and traditions of these times . "
