| 1205989 | 2011-06-01 00:22:00 | Here (www.stuff.co.nz) Continued research was behind the continued questions, Black said. "There's a lot of people in academic careers whose futures depend on there being a continued problem, so there's a great deal of talking up of a continued problem." Of course this comment could also be applied to Climate Change.... |

| 1205994 | 2011-06-01 08:11:00 | As far as I am aware RF can't cause cancer at the levels found in cells etc . As far as you are aware may not be far enough Error Guy (apt name) . The effects are not ionising radiation, as many people may think or fear, but there is a substantial and growing body of evidence that the stresses imposed on human cells by cellular radiation is very definitely a health hazard . Analog phones were the safest, CDMA were not too bad (Code Division Multiple Access) but TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) has a much more aggressive waveform and is quite capable of damaging human cells . Whether such damage turns to cancer or not is still subject to debate, but the evidence for the prosecution is growing, and guess what? Hand-held rf transmitting equipment was exempted from the statutory radiation exposure limits because they exceed those limits by a country mile . Enforcement would mean no cellphones! Kids texting in their laps are exposing their reproductive tool-kit to very high levels of aggressive rf radiation, and brain heating is readily identified with IR camera equipment . What the future mnay hold will only be revealed over time, but like tobacco, the real results won't show until it is too late . I wouldn't give a cellphone to a young child no matter how much they squealed, and my kids had plain-vanilla CDMA phones for pickup calls and emergencies only, but not until senior school at College . Amazingly, they survived among their phone-addicted peers without any difficulty at all, and may well outlive them . I would much prefer to be wrong about the dangers, but the omens are not looking good and with CDMA shutting down soon, there is little hope of improvement . Billy |

| 1205996 | 2011-06-01 23:48:00 | For those on the disbelieving side of the argument, here's the process to follow when a cellphone radiation worry-wort starts rabbiting-on to you: 1) Stop slapping them for being so stupid 2) Ask if they own a DECT phone 3) Ask where the base station sits For most people the responses will be as follows: 1) Ow!.. oh, thanks for stopping - that was starting to REALLY sting 2) Yes, of course 3) Erm... on my bedside table (some may claim the kitchen or other central point of the house - feel free to believe them, or return to your initial approach prior to invoking #1) DECT emits the same kind of pulsed radiation as many cellphones, however, the base station is emitting radiation 24hrs a day regardless of if the handset is in use. A cellphone will tune its power up or down dependent on proximity to a cell site. DECT phones/base stations emit at a fixed level. Ask them if they are more or less concerned at sleeping (or living) next to a permanently emitting 'cell site'. Return to pre-#1 interaction as necessary. | 1205997 | 2011-06-02 00:37:00 | I agree with Billy T, I don't think they are safe as most people seem to want to believe. (Also, refer them to the XKCD page: xkcd.com) Remember that is talking about ionizing radiation, whereas cellphones etc produce non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation which is different. |
