1205353 2011-05-28 06:30:00 Currently my ADSL is down, Telecom don't know when it will be fixed, I'm using dialup... it's pretty slow, especially when you're used to 14Mbit

Feel sorry for anyone who still has to use it on a daily basis :horrified

1205354 2011-05-28 06:51:00 We had a power failure and the DSL modem battery backup was not available, so we had to use Dialup. Lets just say that I just made the hour. bot (15449)

1205356 2011-05-28 07:26:00 We had a powercut the about 20mins before AC/DC tickets went on sale. Trying to buy tickets on my laptop with dial up + Ticketek site = fail

Drives you nuts when you need to download a driver onsite 'cos they've lost the CD :angry ....even worse is dialup in the sticks, lucky to connect at more than 32k in some cases, and then the connection usually drops after 10 minutes. :badpc:

1205357 2011-05-28 12:50:00 We had to use dialup some while ago ...

I think dialup was faster back in the past. Dial up more recently it was so slow that no. of webpages just did not load and Internet banking timed out. That v seldom happened in the past.

Between I was in the outer Kuala Lumpur, spent time with a friend and her parents over at their place. They have ADSL2+ modem but their line speed is only 4Mbps but of course unlimited data. NZ's speed for the most of the population IMO is pretty good.

1205358 2011-05-28 21:29:00 Now you know how a lot of rural people feel. In fact they have worse dialup. I had one customer who's line was so bad they couldn't even fax. pctek (84)
1205359 2011-05-28 21:44:00 I think dialup was faster back in the past. Dial up more recently it was so slow that no. of webpages just did not load and Internet banking timed out. That v seldom happened in the past. It's more that web pages are more media and graphic intensive now so take ages to load on dialup. They are optimised for broad band speed.

My parents are only very occasional internet users so have dialup. I was trying to show them a particular website and had to give up because the loading time was soooo painful.

What makes it worse is having the AV program trying to download a monster (for dialup) update at the same time.

1205360 2011-05-28 22:14:00 Try using dial up between 3 of us, we have been on it since last Wednesday and will be staying on it until this Wednesday when our cap gets reset gary67 (56)
1205361 2011-05-28 22:19:00 Was on dial up for a few years, till kids got older wanting to use Facebook, Youtube etc. Had to optimize load times, resume downloads, etc, but still not enough with demanding browsing needs. Some tips from Digital Inspiration (www.labnol.org) for ramping up those stuck with dial up or slow connection speeds. kahawai chaser (3545)

Can you not buy some extra data. Usually about $2 for an extra 1GB is quite common with a lot if ISPs
