| 1234344 | 2011-09-29 01:20:00 | Computer running XP has slowed down considerably at start up and shut down. Have defragged and optimised using Advanced System Care but it's still slower. Before I resort to restoring a disc image should I uninstall all programs seldom used and clear the desktop? Would that help?Any other suggestions? | Krad (7878) | ||

| 1234346 | 2011-09-29 03:33:00 | What speedy suggested :) But also, yes cleaning out unwanted programs could help, certainly doesn't hurt. If you're comfortable to run MSConfig and stop any startup processes you don't want that can really help too. Another way is to run spybot in advanced mode and use it's tools-startup option and untick stuff, it doesn't do anything msconfig can't already do but is easier and has text descriptions for many of the entries to tell you what they are. You just untick things and see what happens, after a while if everything is working and you're happy you can delete them completely (unticking just stops them running). If you do do this read the descriptions fully before panicing, there is one file that's always there it calls malware and could alarm you, but reading all the way through shows you it depends where it is and that it's probably legit. (forget what is is for now but it's a common windows file) Also running CCleaner couldn't hurt. |

I would remove window washer as well. And uninstall Spinach. Youve got too many antispyware programs.
