| 1233700 | 2011-09-26 06:39:00 | A client of mine has a problem (well my problem now really), with internet connectivity. It keeps disconnecting from the internet. They had a fairly old dlink 4 port modem that was disconnecting almost every night, so to get rid of that I replaced the modem with a Netcomm NB6PLUS4W. It started disconnecting more often (several times a day). So I got Telstra to do a port reset on the line. Problem still continued, so thinking it was a buggy new modem, I got a replacement from my supplier. I fitted it this morning, within an hour it had lost connectivity again. The networking still works, the wireless still works, however, the ppp light goes out, the adsl light goes out, the power light goes red, you are unable to log into the modem while its in this state. After 3 modems, I feel it cant be a modem issue anymore, the broadband is on the phone line, I have replaced the filter and phone cable from the filter to the modem. It is something I havent struck before. I'm kind of stumped at what may be causing this so would appreciate any input, ideas, thoughts, clues, things next to try and eliminate this. Thanks in advance. Ian |

So I'm using their crap 1 port modem/router for now. But its connected to a 5 port GB switch I heard theyre no longer supporting Dlinks (I asked them if this were true). They never answered my question. The 2nd prob you posted does happen here sometimes. If I turn the modem off for a min or so then turn it back on, the PPP light doesnt come on. It does after 2-3 resets tho |

If the power light stays green it is the wireless connection causing the problem and you need to check what security you have set up. Try connecting with no security for a test and if that works try changing to WPA2 if you are not already on this or if so try another security type. |

| 1233704 | 2011-09-26 08:23:00 | Thanks Speedy and Safari, there is a wireless print server that is on all the time - a wireless laptop connected to printer that does nothing else. Thats a good check to make and may be a clue to the red power status. I'll reset it all in the morning (because I'll put money on it that it will be off), and not connect that laptop at all and see if it still drops out. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. |

Yep, thats just about where I'm at next I think. Going to take that wireless lappy offline first, if its not that, telstra will be getting a call to get telecom to run some line checks. Thanks for your advice, appreciate it. |

| 1233707 | 2011-09-26 19:36:00 | I've been through many modems myself here, having similar issues. I don't have my NB lose power like yours, but I certainly lose connections alot. Well, not for the past week or two. It's only occasional at the moment. But when it goes bad, it goes bad. Disconnections every few hours, stupidly long reconnection times, pages and pages of 'start to connect...' in the modem log. I'm on orcon myself. I was using a belkin that I later found was overheating. After replacing it and still getting disconnected, though, i knew it wasn't entirely my problem, especially after networking remained and such. |

| 1233708 | 2011-09-26 20:30:00 | Had the exact same thing a month or so ago with a customer -- to cut a long story short, it ended up being the phone line that carried the adsl had a corroded connection on the pole outside, once they fixed that, it has not dropped out since. Edited: same modem BTW |
