1206780 2011-06-03 13:07:00 On wednesday i backed out of an angle park and hit someone as they were pulling in. I bented their driver front wheel arch and a few scrapes. I gave him my info, as in name and contact number, I'm on a learners - yes i shouldnt have been on my own and admitted that, i was honest and was fully responsible. Problem is he now has a quote from a paelbeaters which is $1900! He has a 1996 Nissan Sunny, and appears to assume i have caused damage to the rear doors. The back of my car hit his FRONT arch by the drivers door, ive measured and my car(a bmw) the width doesnt go past his driver doorhandle. (see attached images) Things are getting out of control, i d not believe i have to repai other damage. i take responsiblity for hitting the car, and i take responsbility for the arch. The quote he received was on lined paper, no letterhead or stamp. So loks dodgey. He wants me to sign a some docuent which i have been told not to sign by my friends unless i have witnesses on my side. All i wanted was a pie from the bakery. He constantly harasses, and says it will go to cout and il lose my learners.
Any other damage in images i attached i do not beleive i have caused.

Any advice on what i can do?

1206781 2011-06-03 13:14:00 Do not sign anything at all period.

You will have already lost any insurance you may have.

I think you have already done the best you can by taking the photos. Were they taken at the time by you or not?

1206782 2011-06-03 13:28:00 Those were taken by me, by my cellphone the same day, not more than 4hrs after the incident, I dont have insurance, and by the pressuring being implied i dont think he does either

*edit* My car suffered no damage, no scratches or paint from him, which shud have happened if i did ALL the damage and if you look on the black sill along the door theres blue paint, my car is silver

1206783 2011-06-03 13:31:00 I have a picture of the so called quote, which im going to ring the actual place and inquire. The person i hit keeps demanding i give him an address which i refuse to do. not that I'm being dishonest. He offered me a deal saying i dont have to fix it, and we will leave it at that if i give him 1500, everything seems shady to me, aidanmaz (7180)
1206784 2011-06-03 13:36:00 Visit your local CAB and put it before them as well. You are definitely in the poo as you have already admitted fault and the fact remains that you should not have been on the road alone.

You could ask for another quote as well by asking the other driver to take it to another repairer of your choice.

Did you take the photos or not? Also did you check whether or not he should have been on the road as in current WOF, Rego, Licence etc?

That looks suss that he's offering a deal and once again don't sign anything for now.

1206786 2011-06-03 13:55:00 I have a few mechanic friends who im taking to look, some of body work, and have said by the pics the damage i did can be banged out easy. And yes i took the pics with a friend as witness aidanmaz (7180)
1206787 2011-06-03 14:08:00 Let's also consider collateral damage in that you lose your learner license if he reports it to the police maybe.

It's unlikely the police would be very interested but do you know?

My other advise would be to go sit the full test asap if you think you are qualified legally to do so!!

aidanmaz has to get his restricted licence first and then have to wait three to 18 months (Source: www.nzta.govt.nz) before he can get a full licence.

Thought it may be something like that but in any event if I were him I would progress the matter as soon as possible.

I did say legally. :)

At the moment it looks like *very* expensive pie!
