So lets see... the US makes hundreds of billions selling an insecure OS to the world.

Hackers learn how to exploit these American made weaknesses for undesirable purposes.

Hackers also learn how to exploit thousands of drone machines using these vulnerable American made OS to do the attacking for them - multiplying the attack and making it seem to come from all across the globe, including from within America... no doubt some govt department computers are drones as well.

Now America wants to have free reign to be judge and juror with regards to military response and retaliation to these events.

So - do they bomb the drone computers scattered across the globe, or somehow hope to track down those running the botnets, or those paying for the bot attacks?

What if the bot attack is launched from say NZ by a residnet with Chinese, Russian or Iranian nationality? Which country do they choose to nuke?

I'd suggest they bomb Redmond campus and let the world default over to some other OS, or build themselves some more secure systems before they consider hostilities on other soils.

1206359 2011-06-02 10:17:00 ...and doesn't this create a huge possibility for countries that would like the heat from the US to shift somewhere else? Make an attack look like it's coming from somewhere it's not... pine-o-cleen (2955)
1206360 2011-06-02 16:36:00 Wait a minute .

Firstly - the US didn't make the system - it only has a company inside it's borders creating a marketable program .

Secondly - just because someone wants to mess with an OPSYS or program does not make it a country's liability .

Any future invasions by the US may not always about 'the oil' - huh? It MIGHT be about sheep .

The primary problem here is not that a system is hackable or shouldn't be - it's that this is a semi-veiled threat to China about their teams of black hats trying to mess with the Department of Defense or The Pentagon by hiding behind offshore autonomy .

If one of youse guys tried to hit a national defense industry in the US - well if I had anything to say, I'd give you a job for your hacking ability and hire you to protect me from another cyber attack . But the hacked companies don't view it as such a fortuitous situation --- if they can actually find you .

Unfortunately, I am not a Department of Defense or even a Department of Offensive Military Contractor nor can I offer you a job . My offensiveness is personal, not military .

Let this be a warning to youse - use a computer and there'll be black helicopters watching you! Black US helicopters .
