2011-06-09 15:33:00 | Some car's don't need to change the trans oil . If you refer to their official servicing/maintenance book . I heard some car's don't have a oil filter too . . . . . Some car's also have a drive chain instead of a drive belt too . With some dealers if you don't take it in for servicing, usually free for the year you bought it or longer if newer . . (perhaps) . If you don't take it in and something goes wrong they might deny warrantee . I cannot remember any vehicles made after the Pleistocene age that didn't have oil filters, unless they are all-electric, steam or nuclear powered . Those that advertise their transmissions never need service, usually state that the unit is sealed and therefor not serviceable . I always enjoyed overhauling those that failed, since the owner was flabbergasted that the manufacturer would make such a sales lie . Usually it was the salesman who made these statements since the owner never reads the owner's manual anyway . Ignorance is bliss - and also was serious money to people like me .

2011-06-09 23:59:00 | Mainly done own oil change and repairs, and also add a engine flush, and sometimes research the lubricants and filters before-hand . Never used or paid mechanics except for WOF . Though might get my son or nephews to do it, don't like wriggling under cars much these days, and sorting through my mountain of tools . Helped I grew up around extended family constantly repairing used cars, overhauls, head swaps, hones, cam swaps, valve grinds, etc . Learnt first oil change when I was 12 or 13 . But buy my products from STA Parts NZ, and use lubricants they import from Smitty's Supply INC (http://www . smittysinc . net/) in the US .

2011-06-10 00:48:00 | The car in my avatar has no oil filter standard. I drove one of those old defects over the Rimutukas back in the mid 70's. Very very slow trip especially considering I was used to riding a Z1 Kwaka. They used to have cross springs didn't they?

Oil change every 5k and filter too most the time. Car gets thrashed so try to keep maintinence up. Prefect - what sorta oil do you use? Just standard 15-40 or something different? Must have some pretty oil come out when you change it! |

2011-06-11 01:55:00 | VW Beattle I read doesn't have a oil filter  not sure if the old or new one . Some cars now also don't have a dipstick but you just read it it on the side like your other reseverior . . . The VW Bugs, Combi and even the Karman Ghia/Kubelwagen didn't actually use a filter - but they all had a screen inside the lower round area under the engine . It was surrounding the oil pump pickup tube and kept the bigger parts that blew up out of the oil pump, that's all . I know for a fact that all the Rabbits and Siroccos had oil filters, as I owned a Rabbit . For sure, the newer Beetles do too . The only VW that might have had a filter and actually didn't need it was the (Water) Boxsters and that's because they didn't last long enough to need an oil change . Every new engine came with fresh oil already in it .
