1207170 2011-06-07 01:40:00 My car is not used for short runs generally as I walk and the car sits for those days. I did say it was an average per day rather than I used the car every day.

If I were to drive from Tokoroa to Hamilton return once a month based on 31 days in the month that would be an average of around 5 Km per day.

1207171 2011-06-07 03:10:00 My wife's Chevy Astro Van gets about 24,000 KMs a year and six oil changes a year.

I put about 32,000 KMs a year on my Isuzu and another 6-7,000 KMs on my Chevy Blazer, and they all get oil changes every 4,800 KMs with filter and full chassis lubes at the same time.

Differential fluids are changed on 3-5 year intervals, although frankly, 90/120Wt gear lube is supposed to never break down.

Transmission fluid and filter changes are also on a yearly basis, right after the cold season.

In the US we drive great distances just to shop - and since I don't work, my driving has dropped quite a bit.

I think all my arithmetic is right - but those sillimeters are odd to me.

1207172 2011-06-07 03:23:00 We change engine oil at 10,000km gearbox and diff never only top it up.
Aircraft dont change engine oil or gearbox oil it stays in for the overhaul period.

1207173 2011-06-09 04:01:00 Slight necro bump but... A family friend just picked up his 2011 Nissan GTR and we got to talking about servicing it ( after the obligatory hoon :p ), apparently Nissan want $2500 for a standard oil change... He was saying he is now doing his changes with a mechanic friend in Auckland who buys the oil direct and does the change himself, that brings it down to only ~$500 a change :p lagbort (5041)

From the point of view of performance, that car is as good as it gets, for a fraction of the price of a Ferrari etc.

This appears to be a car that requires the oil in engine, trans and diff to be changed if certain temperature limits are reached. So the expense could be a form of self inflicted speeding fine.

1207177 2011-06-09 09:43:00 Your friend must have money to burn. I can't believe it costs that much for oil Greven (91)
1207178 2011-06-09 11:14:00 It's a 150k car....and if he brought it new from Nissan, id take the factory service options if I was him, he's obviously not short of $. Alex B (15479)
1207179 2011-06-09 11:43:00 Some car's don't need to change the trans oil.
If you refer to their official servicing/maintenance book.

I heard some car's don't have a oil filter too .....
Some car's also have a drive chain instead of a drive belt too.

With some dealers if you don't take it in for servicing, usually free for the year you bought it or longer if newer .. (perhaps). If you don't take it in and something goes wrong they might deny warrantee.
