1207572 2011-06-09 00:40:00 Thanks Chill, that looks like a definite maybe. Apart from the wi-fi interference issue, wireless seems to me to offer a lot of advantages in terms of installation (no wiring) etc. That PBtech camera - is it weatherproof?

This is all theoretical the moment, but I'll point my people at this thread so they can start to get an idea of the issues and possibilities.

1207573 2011-06-09 03:13:00 Check the frequency that operates on. You'll find you blow all chance of using wifi nearby to smithereens :D

What you want is a few of these:
pbtech.co.nz
With something like this:
http://www.go1984.com/

I've just got me a couple of those model TP-Links after making the same mistake as Jen with some el-cheapo cams that operate on the 2.4Ghz frequency. They're *infinitely* better!!
That Go1984 isn't cheap especially when compared to Zoneminder.
I like the camera though and with the two way audio you could have the computer tell the little bastards to F_off.

1207577 2011-06-09 09:31:00 Hi Tony

Have another look a Vitamin D. It offers great features and is very easy to set up.

Motion dection sounds good but it can be a pain in the ass as well. Cats, dogs etc as well as moving plants in the wind are false triggers. Vitamin D actually detects people not motion.

I really like the idea of hot zones and rules which allow you to find the bad guy quickly through a whole days of video. It can even send an email to your phone or another computer if you set it up correctly.

Have a look at Vitamin D Demo Video. (www.vitamindvideo.com) Well worth the money.

1207579 2011-06-09 10:49:00 Have a look at Vitamin D Demo Video. (www.vitamindvideo.com) Well worth the money.Certainly looks interesting. Brings up an interesting point though - the computing power required to run that (or any other) system. The PC we have at the moment is old and underpowered. Add upgrade costs and the economics change. Tony (4941)
1207580 2011-06-09 12:00:00 I have seen that the whole survelliance gear usually get stolen. My Boss put one in and on a weekend it all went missing. Was not PC based though and it was there to check on the workers who were not working as such. Snorkbox (15764)
