2011-06-07 10:55:00 | You wouldn't get the accidents if the roads were good. We've got cattle tracks for the most part. 100 is too fast for them & too slow for the good bits. Problem is the good bits are scattered randomly around the country connected by potholed cattle track. | Phil B (648) | |
2011-06-07 11:06:00 | I gotta love how everyone was worked up about the whole 4kmph speed limit. As soon as someone mentions "you know you're speedo is probably out" then they all start going crazy like "omg the cops can't do that, they're just trying to make money, i could be doing 100kmph on my speedo and it could be out by 4kmph!!!!!" Seriously, if you're doing 100 chances are you won't get pulled up. If your speedo is significantly out you'd probably notice. And then someone else mentions, "oh you know the lasers that the cops use can be out as well" then they all moan some more and end up just doing 70kmph. But hey, something worked. If it kept those idiots complaining about their speedos and the cops at home then that just might be the reason why no one died.

2011-06-08 10:19:00 | you see that they are attributing the whole thing to the 4kmh tolerance to speeding? as if its from god himself? pats on the back all round chaps! sure it works well in theory - and it worked as well - im not denying that - but it made the weekend miserable for anyone wanting to actually get anywhere during 9am-9pm because you had a 80:20 ratio of scared drivers to competent drivers on the roads the %80 scared drivers were all out doing 75-80kmh on the highways fretting that they will get ended by a cop - and they were driving at 75-80kmh because "ooh i don't know if my speedo is accurate id better drive even slower just in-case its not right" so there would be bunches of up to 20 cars all bunched up with a few wanting to get past so they could actually drive at 100km\h and keep up a decent pace so then comes along a passing lane "good! i should be able to get past here!" but oh wait someone else pulled out and is passing the guy who is doing 75kmh at 76kmh! cause he doesn't want to get ended by the cop sitting at the end of the passing lane and hes scared and also has wild fear of a possible inaccuracy of his speedo and then takes up the whole passing lane to pass one car - ruining it for the other 18 cars behind him - making them angry and impatient and more willing to pass as fast as possible on really bad parts of the road where passing is a really bad idea and that's just the regular car drivers - that's not even mentioning the people in camper-vans or towing caravans or horses that were oblivious to the 30 or so cars behind them and when they did notice them didn't pull over because they had the whole "im driving safely at 60kmh on a highway so no one else needs to rush!" so i did all my long trips out of town from the hours 9PM to 9am making good pace while obeying the speed limits at all times - with the roof off for extra awesome to the point i even got pulled over for having the roof off as the cop thought i was on some sort of awesome drugs :D good times when the roads aren't full of people scared of the police! that women cop whose always on the new about how the reduction in road tolls is because of the low tolerance always seems to be arrogant about it, like she's the one behind it. ya gonna always have muppets who speed and die regardless of there being a low tolerance or not. just luck i think, but good luck anyway

2011-06-08 21:03:00 | You probably wouldn't have passed them otherwise.:D Yes it is so easy to go over the 4 km threshold. By raising the threshold to the normal 5 km for heavy vehicles or 10 km for cars the police leave themselves free to catch the real speedsters. By pulling some poor motorist over for being 5 km over the limit they take themselves off the road and perhaps miss catching a real speedster doing maybe km over the limit.

It wasn't until I had been pulled over a couple of times (ticketed once) that I realised that my speedo was seriously out. Most speedos register under though, meaning when the speedo says a 100km they are doing 95km or similar, hence you find people going way under the limit when they have these 4km limits. |
