Joe, we don't have a king. We do have a queen, but I think she made in conditional we picked her up at the airport in a Roller or BMW. Her Maj was not amused by the suggestion we send the 59 Buick to collect her.

1206923 2011-06-09 06:26:00 I used to think that way, too . But after a disastrous run with a XJ6C, Alfa Romeo and Porsche (their engineering too subtle for American mechanics used to big Detroit engine blocks), I relented and bought one of the truly nicest cars I've ever owned . A '78 (because that was 1978) Oldsmobile Toronado .

I called her Stephanie after my then girlfriend . They were both sexy, fast, and sultry . Comfort? We won't go there ;)

The better descriptive word would be: PLUSH .

Was the Toro a 350 diesel? Or the 455 CI 400HP big block?

Actually, some Toronadoes came with the 500 CI Cadillac engine with 625 HP - and some had then a 350 Gas engine with 355 HP . There were a few other engines that came in them too .

The Cadillac was the biggest production engine from GM, and in it's day the Cadillac 60-Series had very impressive 1/4 mile times!

But the Cadillac, Riviera and Toronado engines and whole drivetrain actually was interchangeable on that power platform that was under the vehicle .

Some platforms even made it into FWD 40' RV motorhomes:::

I think - no, make that: I KNOW she'd be impressed.

And you REALLY need a King.

1206925 2011-06-09 06:40:00 I think Her Maj, if ever she decided to exercise her rights to repossess the USA, declare the Constitutional null and void, would immediately,

* declare driving on the right illegal
* abolish the presidency,
* command that all American spell-checks include the vowel "u" were appropriate,

and

* banish all 59 Buicks to where they belong.

Long live the Queen.

No, Stephanie was a Lush :lol:

I don't recall the engine details, except it always started and never needed repairs, and it was great set of wheels . Not a diesel (I didn't know GM was into that) . The major technological advance that comes to mind it was front wheel drive, I think the first GM product to offer that .
