1206800 2011-06-04 00:30:00 Thanks for the advice guys, I have been advised to legally at this stage not do anything has he has to get 3 legit quotes (ie letterhead paper or a stamped and signed paper with the shops name etc.) I have to call him tonight since he was consistently calling and i was told to ignore any contact. Now he is threatening police action which is interesting as all he has is a name and a number for me. I not trying to avoid it, but theres not much he can do. On monday i am going with a mates neighbour who can straighten the front arch and i will offer him 50 bucks, otherwise I will call his bluff. The way the situation played out when i hit him, there is no way in hell i could of do that, my car and his car are different heights and the marks dont match up. May someone in auckland near West wants to accompany me? as i refuse to sign or even see him without a witness, he keeps demanding i give him a residential address, which i do not feel safe doing, He did have a speil about religious things on the phone which i believe had a hidden threat, but again I'm just want this sorted I take responsibilty but am not going to be conned. aidanmaz (7180)
1206801 2011-06-04 00:40:00 bent, not bented.

Are you insured? Or not because of the license thing.
If you are give the pics to the insurance company and let them fight it.

If not, tell the guy you don't believe you are responsible for the rear damage, offer to pay for the damage to the front - with another quote and if not let it go to the Disputes Tribunal which is all you can do.

Keep the pics and all documentation he gives you for the case.

You think you have problems, if it was all that damage $1900 is nothing.
My son rear ended a crappy L300 van and now has to pay the guys insurance company $6000.

Always have insurance, even if only 3rd party - and don't drive in any ways that will void your cover.

no insurance dont generally drive much where i need to go is usually bussable or walkable, in this case i got lazy :-(

1206802 2011-06-04 00:57:00 LL, I agree with Paragraph 1 and 2. But I don't agree with, "If he'd done nothing the guy would have been none the wiser, but my son thought he was doing the "right" thing by telling him".

It was the "right" thing. :annoyed:

I think you have misunderstood. Yes he did do the right thing. Was just saying that if he hadn't the guy probably wouldn't even have noticed, it was only a very small ding, but it was on the plastic bit of the bumper which had to be replaced.

Incidentally it took my son almost a year to pay it off because he was unemployed at the time.

1206803 2011-06-04 01:09:00 So Ive called the panelbeater who made the quote, its legit quote, he just forgot to stamp it. He seems to think my car did all that damage which is bulls**t! The scratches dont match on the rear and theres different colored paint. Interestly enough the panelbeater said theres no point getting more quotes cos thats what it will cost average. Everything seems shady and he got this quote very very fast. aidanmaz (7180)

Do not sign anything!!!

Get him to sign a receipt if you are paying as in full and final settlement.

Have you been to the CAB yet?

1206806 2011-06-04 01:41:00 There is a lesson in this for all of us, don't drive without insurance .

Funny thing is, even if you did have insurance you'd probably still end up paying 1500+ as your excess (they probably wouldn't cover you for driving outside license conditions, rightfully so) .

Can't say I have any sympathy for you driving without a license .

End of the day, take him to the disputes tribunal, whine a bit, say you have no money . 10$ a week for a year or 4 . No biggie .

May I ask, how do you get to work? And how long have you had your learners?
Cato (6936)
1206807 2011-06-04 01:43:00 work is easy, bus. cheaper and saves on parking. Had learners for a while, cant make excuses, just slips my mind. And yes i fully admit i shouldnt have been driving, but we do things we shouldnt, not that im making excuses. - least I'm honest aidanmaz (7180)
