1206790 2011-06-03 18:15:00 Those pic's look dodgy to me,looks like the panels behind the front guard have been pushed out from the inside and also looks like have been done by something else other than a another vehicle Lawrence (2987)
1206791 2011-06-03 19:10:00 No way they are all from one accident. Do your research checking with panelbeaters and get a estimates for the damage you know that you caused. Then armed with this call his bluff and go to tribunal.

The whole car is lucky to be worth $1900 so looks like he is wanting an easy payout to upgrade.

1206792 2011-06-03 21:23:00 Yeah, this guys driving an old car that's not even worth the money he wants to fix the scrapes.

On the other hand, he sees a kid in a BMW and assumes that 'daddy' will have deep pockets.

Taking photos as you have was very wise.
The challenge is to find a way to politely tell the guy to go and get #$%^&*!

Offer him a few hundred bucks, for which he will need to sign a receipt as acknowledgement of full compensation with regard to the incident.

It isn't worth getting the insurance co involved over a sum this size, as the impact on reinsuring / no claims bonus etc is gonna cost even more.

1206793 2011-06-03 21:30:00 Yes, after studying the photos they do look like dents that have already been pushed out. Plus there's a white spot (paint?) on his rear view mirror, which is possibly too high up to have traded paint from the rear of your vehicle.

I do have to wonder if this guy is looking to get two incidents paid off at once.
Some folks make a living at this sort of bluff.

1206794 2011-06-03 21:40:00 I bented their driver front wheel arch and a few scrapes .

now has a quote from a paelbeaters which is $1900! He has a 1996 Nissan Sunny, and appears to assume i have caused damage to the rear doors .

bent, not bented .

Are you insured? Or not because of the license thing .
If you are give the pics to the insurance company and let them fight it .

If not, tell the guy you don't believe you are responsible for the rear damage, offer to pay for the damage to the front - with another quote and if not let it go to the Disputes Tribunal which is all you can do .

Keep the pics and all documentation he gives you for the case .

You think you have problems, if it was all that damage $1900 is nothing .
My son rear ended a crappy L300 van and now has to pay the guys insurance company $6000 .

Always have insurance, even if only 3rd party - and don't drive in any ways that will void your cover .

1206795 2011-06-03 21:45:00 Yes the scrapes on the back are very suspect, looks like an amateur has tried to fix a previous ding. Clod (7853)

Agreed wait for him to take you to court. Will probably never happen

EDIT: Listen to pctek, very good advice

x2 for all these posts

The only thing I might add is to check your ground with the CAB. Then get a competent spokesperson to talk for you. But under NO circumstances part with any money, and certainly nowhere near $1900, without a signed receipt acknowledging "full and final payment".

Good luck.

1206798 2011-06-03 22:59:00 aidenmaz,
You might need legal advice, contact Citizens Advice Bureau. They will have a lawyer that should be able to help you.

My son accidently backed into another guy's car a few years ago, in our shared driveway. He had no insurance, he knocked on the guy's door and told him what had happened. He somehow ened up having to pay the guy $700 for the damage. If he'd done nothing the guy would have been none the wiser, but my son thought he was doing the "right" thing by telling him.

Eventually when you get this all sorted, and you will, it's not the end of the world, try to sort out some third party insurance.

LL, I agree with Paragraph 1 and 2. But I don't agree with, " If he'd done nothing the guy would have been none the wiser, but my son thought he was doing the "right" thing by telling him".

It was the "right" thing. :annoyed:
