1234332 2011-09-29 03:33:00 My XP Professional machine even though it has Windows Media Player won't play .avi movies, all I get is the sound track.

I did notice that a message came up and then disappeared that said Codec was missing.

Can anyone help without my going to VLC, please?

1234334 2011-09-29 03:38:00 You don't like VLC? seriously it is much better at playing multi formats than media player.

sourceforge.net releases/generic build (stable)/ffdshow_beta7_rev3154_20091209.exe/download

Will make media player handle most formats if you insist. Or you can google/download G-spot and use it to tell you what codec is missing and just get that one. Most likely it's the Xvid or DivX codec you are missing.
