1233911 2011-09-27 09:29:00 The program is legit, its not that its the services they disable. What version of windows is it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1233912 2011-09-27 10:18:00 More importantly, were any financial details divulged, or stored on the PC? Sick Puppy (6959)
1233913 2011-09-27 10:42:00 Probably a good idea to stop the payment on the credit card immediately, and get him to ask his bank what to do next (new cards etc).
Change all his IDs/Passwords.
Do virus and malware scans, etc.

1233914 2011-09-27 17:44:00 Hi guys,my son got one of these calls tonight,,unfortunately he did all they asked

Please ask your son why?
I really want to know what makes people do this.

Maybe I'm a suspicious type but anyone that randomly rings me and either asks things or wants me to do something, I immediately find them guilty until proven innocent.

I don't just mean IT stuff either.

1233916 2011-09-27 21:15:00 Its like clicking on links / saving / running attachments in email. No matter how many times you tell people not to do it, they do it Speedy Gonzales (78)
1233917 2011-09-27 21:43:00 So is there remote control software on his PC now like from logmein?

If so then remove it, also run the software back using system restore to before when this happened.

1233918 2011-09-27 21:48:00 Hard to really suggest what to do, as there's several variations of this scam going around. Really need to know what they had him do, in order to undo it, and as already said if there's any financial info, or if they asked for CC details, talk to the bank. inphinity (7274)
1233919 2011-09-27 21:51:00 The one I fixed (in Oz), they had disabled some services (about 5 of them to do with events one disabled task scheduler), and disabled error reporting. I just set them back to the defaults ( they had Vista) Speedy Gonzales (78)
