1208370 2011-06-11 11:09:00 So there it is, potentially 250,000 billion drums or more of oil just off the coast of New Zealand . And yet the price of fuel in that country in the last 2 years has Doubled .

If the Oil is in New Zealand waters and the price of Oil controls the cost of Fuel? Then WTF????

I think a little country like NZ should get off its lazy S . O . B . behinds and make its own damn fuel . Are they really just going to let Oil corporations just walk all over them? What are they SHEEP?

1208371 2011-06-11 11:15:00 What do you think NZ has the capital? In any case, I personally feel it's a big gamble. One big spill or leakage and this country's 'green' reputation is destroyed. Along with our coastal environment. And oil industries always bring those shady characters home.... qazwsxokmijn (102)
1208372 2011-06-11 11:22:00 NZ's fuel is expensive because the tankers can't be screwed coming over here so we have to pay them quite a bit to make it worthwhile .

Then as soon as they get to shore they dump it in whatever tank is available, not necessarily the one that we want it in making it a bit costly to shift the oil to its proper tank, flush the old one etc .

Then we have to refine it .

It also costs a hell of a lot to drill, set up a rig and then process the oil . We can't afford it .

I meant it would cost a lot to gather the raw materials then refine rather than purchase them and refine.

1208376 2011-06-11 22:13:00 At the very least we should investigate to see what is there be it oil under the sea or minerals in national parks. If we do not know it is pointless arguing about the rights and wrongs of extracting anything. We have a history of people being against almost anything. No more dams for example but they still want to flick a switch and have their light come on. Clean green NZ is a myth but one that is keeping a lot of people unemployed. CliveM (6007)
1208377 2011-06-11 22:21:00 Oil and the internal combustion engine are so last century, lets face it the days of cheap oil are long gone if they were ever really here at all. It's about time the governments and big business really put the funding into finding a proper alternative to oil and I don't mean biofuel. I mean how long have we had the combustion engine 130 years? surely some scientist could find a replacement type of propulsion by now gary67 (56)

1080, 1080, 1080, wtf, haven't been GREEN ever !!!!!

Don't think it's as deep as the Gulf of Mexico, won't go as far the oil tanker off the US coast the other time.

We have sided up with the Chinese, so money shouldn't be a prob.
