1234531 2011-09-30 23:41:00 Belac & Everest both tell me the drive is a ST10000DM000-9TS15E 1000.2GB

As I said earlier the spare socket looks like it should have a cable as opposed to jumpers as it is the "L" shaped (tilted 90 degrees) keyed.

That model number is probably wrong, if you want to know the real model number, check the sticker on top of the drive itself.

Seatools should tell you the correct number, though...

(Unless it IS the correct number and you have some weird version specifically designed for NAS or something)

How many pins does this socket have? If it's about 7 or so, then it's likely just the jumper block for things like recovery mode, speed selection etc (there is no master\slave setting for SATA)

1234532 2011-10-01 20:51:00 Well, the Label, the BIOS, Everest, Belac Advisor all say it is a ST1000DM.

Mind you, Everest & Belac probably ask the BIOS anyway.

The only additional information on the label is that it is a Barracuda.

Anyway, here’s a photo of the mystery socket.

Bear in mind it seems to work fine, so it really is just a curiosity thing. :)

1234533 2011-10-01 21:03:00 Those are jumper pins used to throttle the drive to 1.5Gbit/s if necessary :p pcuser42 (130)

Strange. As we can see, ST1000DM seems non-existent according to Google!

Does it have any other company logos on it, like Compaq\HP or anything?

I would be suspicious of it being a re-branded or such drive for OEM use or similar.

Also the serial console

1234535 2011-10-02 00:57:00 Maybe I should offer it back to Seagate at a huge price as being the only drive they ever made that they didn’t know about.

I was embarrassed about asking but I don’t feel so bad now. :D

(No evidence on label of re-branding Agent_24)

1234536 2011-10-02 04:36:00 Try a google search for ST1000DM000-9TS15E, the concensus is that it only came out in an external drive caddy.

That’s interesting, I thought External Caddy’s just housed normal Hard Drives? :o

I guess you learn something new every day.

The good thing is it doesn’t realise it’s not in an External Caddy so I’d better keep that a secret. ;)
