| 1208334 | 2011-06-11 04:34:00 | Thanks guys, I thought I was on the right track but it just feels odd having money given to me. Ive never claimed anything insurance ever so its all new. :( I suppose "renting" as opposed to owning a house helps ?. The majority of us are in what's called a "Queue", having been in the insurance game, we put in an early claim for the September jolt, but only had the full assessment done a week before the second jolt. Our son came down from up north and filed the second claim within the week of February's bigger jolt and we have had the quick 10 minute appraisal. huey you were very lucky to be paid out so promptly, did the insurance coy. not inspect the damaged goods ?. We have heard of a lot of items that were pushed as opposed to falling off/over, tvs' especially. There are going to be a lot of honest people out of pocket on account of these fraudulent claims and it's good to see you making an effort. Lurking. |

| 1208335 | 2011-06-11 06:08:00 | Sorry I thought I was more clear. I havent been paid out. Im in the que as well. Im just saying what i plan to do. I have kept the items damaged that I could as told by eqc. But moving house plus the damage and water/silt damage to some of it meant it just wasnt practical so I took photos and left it. The only people I have heard of being paid out for contents are those who had damage to their houses over the $115k. And yes renting is definitely an advantage in this situation. It as depressing enough picking up your life out of a trashed muddy house and moving on without having to say goodbye to a house you owned. |

I hope the banks are lenient with people in that situation. Insurance companies don't like you fixing anything yourself unless the item is declared a write off & you purchase it back off them for the salvage value. |

| 1208338 | 2011-06-11 10:51:00 | What I am planning to do once the money finally comes is pay off credit card, which has gotten out of control (and recently been cut up) and spent the rest on a few other things. The items damaged weren't all necessary and to be honest I have no intention on replacing a few of them because the money could be spent on better things. It may not be as much as one thinks, by the time the Insurance people take age/fair wear and tear into account. Anything that's pretty new, dig out the relevant payment details and keep with your claim documents. Lurking. |

I am aware that insurance will factor age and have tried to allow for that on the form thing you fill in. Alot of stuff is reasonable new though so I figure its worth mostly what I paid in the first place. Some things you have to guess though because it was a while ago. |
