2011-10-11 00:12:00 | I have a recent problem of the available memory decreasing to zero or near zero. My computer is an Acer AX3950 Windows 7, Intel Core I3, 4GB Ram, 1TB HDD. Symptoms are: Slow loading of programmes (and I mean slow!) IE fading out when running, etc. I have checked the Resource monitor and it shows Physical Memory 4023, Cached 2263, Available 2199, Free 0 (or 1, 2 or 3MB) I have run Norton Full scan in Safe mode and 5 problems were identified and fixed. My only recent changes to my computer programes was the installation of .net Framework4 and Wordpress and the associated programmes. I had a problem with an error message which was solved by Speedy Gonzales about 2 days ago. Thank you in anticipation of a suggested resolution. | 1236718 | 2011-10-11 00:54:00 | run Hijack again, tick those entries and tell it to remove them. Oh and get rid of Norton it's rubbish and get either Microsoft security essentials (free) or Nod32 (not free) | gary67 (56) | |
2011-10-11 00:57:00 | yea - but what about all the "Unknown owner - file missing" entries ....something gone wrong there

2011-10-11 01:03:00 | Thanks Folks I have followed Gary67 and Speedy's suggestions and the resource memory ratios have changed with free memory now being 2472. Nortons came with the computer and is near the end of the 12 month free period. I used to use MS Security Essentials on my old computer and it proved to be satisfactory. So I will revert to MS Security Essentials. Thanks again for such prompt advice - it is appreciated.

2011-10-11 03:22:00 | It's the available memory figure that matters more than the free memory one. Windows 7 tends to reserve a large amount of memory but releases it as needed, it gives the illusion that more is used than actually is. Seems like you may have sorted it anyway, if not try a good malware scan and cleanout unwanted files and programs.

Spybot Superantispyware, Malware Bytes, choose two. |
