1236197 2011-10-07 20:57:00 This old IBM ThinkCentre M52 8213-D93 (XP Pro SP3) has got a DVD ROM which is working fine and I would like to replace the DVD ROM with a DVDRW drive. Put in this BenQ DVDRW drive (it's old but works perfectly fine in another XP machine), the OS recognises this device but the drawer refuses to open - I could hear it's making some noises attempting to open but could not. I have to use a pin to force it to open and once opened, it opens and closes continuously. Updated the BIOS (downloaded from Lenovo) but still doesn't help.

Any suggestions?

1236198 2011-10-07 21:47:00 One cause could be a power supply problem. Try another power plug from the PSU but not on the same lead. wainuitech (129)
1236199 2011-10-08 04:03:00 As this PC is a Small Form Factor Case, there's only one power plug available, sadly. bk T (215)
1236200 2011-10-08 04:27:00 Have you got another PSU that you can try ?

Doesn't have to be installed, can simply be connected in place of the original, hanging out the side - if it works with another PSU then theres the problem.

Hate those small form factor PSU's they can be a PITA to replace if needed :crying

1236201 2011-10-08 07:17:00 Unfortunately, haven't got a spare PSU.

It's OK. forget about the 'upgrade'.

Thanks, anyway.
