1236119 2011-10-07 07:19:00 I have been reading through some posts on here and it seem that the free Anti Virus programs available on the Net are not that great.
So what should I look at getting that won't slow my PC down too much and try to scan every program I open and call it a Virus.
Cost is of course a factor I have 2 Pc's 1 with XP the other Windows7

You say that MSE broke for you. I had a similar problem recently when MSE stopped working for me. I needed an Anti Virus so I downloaded Avast to replace MSE in the meantime. I will go back to MSE eventually.

1236123 2011-10-07 09:41:00 MSSE for free and Nod 32 for paid. Just don't get Nortons.

1236124 2011-10-07 09:49:00 I would go for Avast! for free or NOD32 for paid.

Definitely NOT Norton or McAffee

When MSE broke for me, uninstalling and doing a full reinstallation didn't make any difference.

It turned out to be objecting to the presence of a folder left by the ESET online AV scan. IIRC MSE refused to update and the firewall wouldn't load. Whatever the problems were, deleting that folder and rebooting produced an instant recovery.

Cheers
