2011-10-07 04:39:00 | Hi, I'm a new one here. Because I have obviously not a very good understanding of computer related problems I need your help. I'm facing a serious problem of very slow startup. I've WindowsXP(SP2) installed and it takes undue time while showing Welcome. When it reaches the desktop level it doesn't show any icon or taskbar and after a minute or two launches properly. What's wrong? I didn't have this problem before when I installed Windows fresh and used it for almost two months. Is it a sign of some virus or what? Thanks! Rashid

2011-10-07 05:18:00 | I would update IE to 8 if you use it. 6 is a bit old now. And I would install SP3 once you find out why its slow. Is this an AMD or Intel system?? Uninstall this O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchSettings] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Spigot\Search Settings\SearchSettings.exe" Uninstall Advanced Systemcare Tick these then tick fix checked. Close browsers first O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchSettings] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Spigot\Search Settings\SearchSettings.exe" Get ccleaner, install it. (http://www.ccleaner.com) Then go to tools / startup. Click on run cleaner. Close browsers first Then reboot then see if its any faster

2011-10-07 05:19:00 | As for your question, yes. I've Avast! antivirus and I made a boot-time scan which hopefully also scans the entire hard disk for malwares/viruses. And I found no warning message. | mdRASHIDkhi (16580) | |
2011-10-07 05:20:00 | k cool. Do the above and see if that makes a diff. | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2011-10-07 05:34:00 | I'm using Google Chrome for browsing as a default browser. This is AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+ 2.19 GHz. Why do you suggest to uninstall Advanced Systemcare? I found this a helpful tool to clean my hard disk off and on and repair registry. How can I uninstall: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SearchSettings] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Spigot\Search Settings\SearchSettings.exe" I've downloaded CCleaner from the site you mentioned and I will run this .exe file but first I should check the two items you suggested before I click Fix checked. For this I need to close the browser. So, now I do!

2011-10-07 05:40:00 | Why do you suggest to uninstall Advanced Systemcare? I found this a helpful tool to clean my hard disk off and on and repair registry. You need to be very careful with programs that clean / alter the registry, some will actually make a computer run worse and do more harm than good.

2011-10-07 05:51:00 | It will be the Avast boot scan slowing it down, I would almost put money on it | gary67 (56) | |
2011-10-07 06:24:00 | I ran all operations through CCleaner and also acted upon your advice to fix items by HijackThis but the problem persists! :( | mdRASHIDkhi (16580) | |
